Travel between Thanjavor and Rameswaram

Does any one know the distance by road between Thanjavor and Rameswaran and how long it would take by taxi? Any ideas as to cost? The train schedule does not seem to be optimum for our trip. Any tips as to how long to stay/what to do in Rameswaram? Many thanks, Googer

The distance between Tanjore and Rameshwaram is 254 Kms. Checkout the below for a more detailed routing. It would take about 6 hours max by car.

There are around 9 - 10 tourist interest places in Rameswaram

Kothandaramar Koil - Dhanushkodi (On a little Island)

Ramar Padham - Where Lord Rama stood and prayed to Sea lord

Hanuman Temple - Near Ramar Padham

Ramanatha Swamy - Asia's biggest pragaram
Would have to cross 22 Koni Theertham (22 wells from where water can be drawn) Take a 1 liter bottle and you can collect water from all the 22 wells

Seetha Theertham - Pond

Ramar Theertham - Pond

Lakshmana Theertham - Pond

Abdul kalam - House of the ex president.

There will be a lot of Auto drivers, with whom you can negotiate and fix a deal.

I used this guy Nagaraj who took 230 Rs for the whole day tour to all the above mentioned places (Excluding pick up and drop to railway station)

Any auto will charge you 40 Rs for pick up from station and another 40 Rs for dropping you back.

Nagaraj's number is 9344080155. He can come and pick you up in the station itself if you require.

One day is more than enough to cover rameswaram, unless you decide to stay back.

You can travel from tanjore to tricy by road (1.5hrs duration at max).
From Trichy, you can catch the Rameswaram express train.

This option would work out, if you want to ignore long duration of road travel.

The demerits is that, you need to catch the rameswaram express from trichy at 2am in the morning. Which could be the tough job.
