We are planning to stay two nights in February at Tiruvannamalai.
Please recommend midrange hotels. Also, does ashram stay have western style bathrooms? How to make reservations at ashram ! Thanks |

it is most likely too late to make reservations at the ashram, but the ashram next door to the original one (forgot the name)generally has space. The Maharshi Ashram generally is fully booked December to March, the year before. No hotel to recommend nearby. I stayed in a private house around the corner, as that other ashram is a bit loud. Just next to these ashrams runs a busy road, that is why.

I have never stayed in the Maharshi Ashram (but as mentioned you will not be able to get a reservation there in Feb anyhow). The Ashram at the side does have Western style toilets, at least in the room I got. There is also a restaurant inside that other ashram compound, with decent Tamil food. Opposite these ashrams are lots of tourist hang-out places, and shops.

I was in tiruvannamallai two weeks ago and stayed at Ganesh International Guest House. It is located just few steps from the temple and about 10/15 minute walking to the asrham. Staff is very friendly and ready to give you assistance about anything you need, bus timing, festival, rikshaw fares atc...
Downstairs you can find a good saravan bhavan for your dinners. Rooms are not luxurious but clean and pretty confortable. the only negative aspect is that many rooms are near the main street...Do not remember exactly the prices but I sure it was a very good quality to price ratio (maybe 350-450 rs for a double no ac room)!!!!:-) |
