Taxi from Bangalore to Ooty

How long would a taxi from Bangalore
- take
- cost

Is best just to
- get one at the airport
- pre-arrange one
- have one sent from Ooty

The alternative is to wait 4 hours for a plane, fly to Coimbatore (Rs4,000 and 1 hour), and then get a taxi to Ooty from there (Rs1,000 and 2 hours).

You MUST drive from Bangalore to Ooty. It is a spectacular drive, taking you through Mysore and past the Palace.

The main road goes straight through the Madamulai Wildlife Sanctuary where you are guaranteed to see wild deer, several varieties of monkey, elephants and maybe water buffalo, and wild cats.

Then you climb from Masinagudi up into the Nilgiris - a spectacular road with 36 hair-pin bends and stunning views! It's not to be missed, and the journey will seem like 1 hour.

From Bangalore Airport to Ooty is 7½ hours by taxi.

The normal cost is Rs.3000/-

You can pre-book with George Hawkes, Charing Cross, Ooty.

Ask if you can have Matthew as your driver - he is a charming young man with good english.
