Tamilnadu in Dec 09

Hi! This is my first post and I need help to plan my itinerary to travel to Tamilnadu in Dec 09. What are the best places to see amongst the following:
Munnar
Kodaikanal
Ooty
Swamimalai
Mahabalipuram
Yercaud

Recommendations for destinations close to Tamilnadu are also welcome!!

Munnar is in Kerala.

Mahalbalipuram is a nice place with quite different temples to others in the state. It's also close enough to stay there instead of Chennai in case you have a flight out or something, you can go straight to Chennai airport from there.

You don't have Madurai, Thanjavur although Swamimalai is very close by or Kanchipuram.

Hi Ananya,

Welcome to Tamilnadu.

Out of the 6 places you have mentioned 4 are hill stations. One is a historic monument built by the Pallava Kings, Swamimalai is a religious Shrine and part of the Arupadaiveedu.

Depending on the number of days you can spare, you can decide to choose where to go. In my opinion I would advise you to just stick to one Hill Resort either Munnar, Kodai or Ooty.

You can skip Yercaud as there is not much to be seen nor good when compared to the other resorts.

You can just visit the below link for an overview of the place. On the right hand side you can also check out details about Ooty, Kodai etc.

If you are interested in Temple architecture and religious places, a visit to Tamilnadu is not complete if you dont visit Kanchipuram, Tanjore, Kumbakonam and Madurai.

Was wondering if you know if the Madurai temple restoration was finished, I saw recently that it was covered in scafolding, any idea?

Madurai temple restoration is finished some months now, I have been there end of August and everything was pretty and shining

My sincere apologies for not replying or thanking you earlier.
I was uncertain on my dates of travel, which is finally fixed now...I want to travel starting December 19-January 2, 2010. I am following your advice and will stick to just one hill station, i.e. Kodai and yes will like to see Madurai too.
Since I am based in Delhi, will flying to Bangalore / Chennai / Coimbatore be most advisable?

I mentioned Bangalore since I will like to visit Coorg too...although I am not sure if I can see it in this trip. Still very confused..

Need help desperatley to plan my itinerary.

I have finalised a tentative itineray for my south india trip. We are a group of 5 and intend covering these places by cab. Please advise if i should skip / add some places in my itinerary. Also any advise on any places to stay and sightseeing will be appreciated.In Kodai and Ooty we intend to stay at the sterling resorts since we are members of it.

Don't know why you would want to do Ooty and kodaikanaal...you should do one if at all.

Also you are missing thanjavur and mahalbalipuram.
