Tamil Nadu...any ideas
Hi guys,
Am off to Ooty tomorrow and have about 3 weeks in Tamil. Can anyone recommend their favourite places to go and what to see etc? It's the ned of my India trip (sniff) and I want it to be a goodun... Cheers x |

Mallibapuram has been a tourist site for centuries, and after carving snow caves in the midwest as a kid, I loved seeing what they do to solid rock and the view of the beach and sea!
Pondicherry is perhaps a little overrated, but is so un-india that it's kind of refreshing. Sholinga is a great trip, beautiful scenery and great view from 1000 steps high. Enjoy. Holler if you need a place to stay in Chennai. |

suggest masinagudi / top slip if you are into wild life..go down south to tirunelveli , kanya kumari or go to thanjavur for the famous chola temples

My fav place in the region is Puducherry and the adjoining commune of Auroville.

In Tamilnadu, the following places might be of interest to you & I have visited all the places listed below .. And the following list focusses on just central and northern tamilnadu .
Religious / Spiritual:- Pondicherry (Aurobindo Ashram / Auroville) /Beaches Tiruvanamalai (Yogis ,Ashrams, Yoga) Architecture / Bigger Temples:- Tanjavur Big Temple Chidambaram NAtarajar Temple Bigger temples in Vaitheeswaran Kovil , Sirkazhi around Chidambaram Madurai Meenakshi Temple Hill Stations / Scenic Places:- Kodaikanal / Yelagiri (Apart from ooty) Wildlife / Sanctuaries:- Mudumalai (60 kms from ooty on Mysore road) / Teppakkadu (Elephant camp - 7 km from Mudumalai) Trekking / Resorts with beautiful views (Nearer to ooty) :- Places like Masinagudi / Bokkapuram / Mudumalai which are just 60 kms from ooty have numerous Resorts / Tree houses which will arrange night safari into forests Or walking trails on Nilgiri hills And if you want to travel outside tamilnadu (From ooty), My suggestion will be : Bandipur Wildlife sanctuary & Mysore (Palace, Chamundi hills, Somanathpura etc) Karnataka Hope this helps |
