Staying in Pollachi or Top Slip
Does anyone have any recommendations on somewhere to stay in Pollachi. I want to be in the area to go to Top Slip for birdwatching. I know there is some accommodation at Top Slip but am unsure about whether there will be space available (three of us plus driver, arriving next Wednesday), or even whether it is actually suitable without having our own sleeping bags.
Any answers much appreciated. Thanks Niven |

While there are servicable hotels in Pollachi, i'd recommend staying in Coimbatore and making the trip to Topslip, as the hotels in Coimbatore are far better.
If, however it has to be pollachi, try the following: Hotel Lakshmi 04259-225620 , Hotel Sakthi 04259-223050. For changing money/ Western Union, try Muthoot Bankers 04259-234447 . |

Staying in Pollachi & Top Slip
Thanks for that. My main concern was that with a car I would be paying a lot extra excess km charges to go from Coimbatore to Top Slip each day (3 days) rather than fromn Pollachi. Also I wondered because Coimbatore is a much larger town, then the time taken to get to Top Slip would be a lot longer with traffic as well as distance, and it is important in birding to get there as soon as it opens. What do you think?

Hi Niven
If ur serious about birding, u can try Commander Zacharias who has a birding tour company that also, i think, operates in that terrain. I think his website is http://www.kalypsoadventures.com/php...ries.php?aid=5. Or u can try talking to K V Eldhose, prolly the best known birder/guide in these parts. While i gather he's not keen on Top slip, he has been known to help arrange accom and guides. He runs a wonderful place called the Hornbill Camp at Thattekad which can also be ur base preceding the TopSlip tour. http://www.thehornbillcamp.com/ Again, if ur insistent on Topslip, the best recommended place is the Banyan Tree Plantation Homestay, approx 12 kms away, and is owned and operated by Prabhu, and is supposed to be a veritable birders haven. http://www.homestayskerala.com/php/l...ils.php?hid=31 Hope this helps. |
