Road Trip - Bangalore to Kumbakonam

Hi All,

I am a new member of this group.

I am planning to drive down from Bangalore to Kumbakonam around the end of December. I was trying to identify the most ideal route. The priorities are:

1. Time & Comfort (good roads)
2. Distance

I browsed through some maps and identified 2 possible routes:

Route 1

Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem - Namakkal - Karur - Trichy - Thanjavur - Kumbakonam

Route 2

Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem - Perambalur - Ariyalur - Thanjavur(?) - Kumbakonam

I would like to have advice whether there are routes that I can take. Also details on which would be the fastest route. For information, I drive a Mahindra Scorpio. I am traveling with the family. I am planning to leave early in the morning (around 5.30 AM) from Bangalore. I would also appreciate if I could get advice on the places to stop for Breakfast and Lunch.
