Folks,

Recently our astrologer adviced us to visit Vaitheeswaran temple and searching for it directs me to near Mayuram, Kumabakonam.

Infact, previously on a trip to kumbakonam, we covered all the navagraha temples and even went on to tanjore but badly missed gangaikonda cholapuram ! to my bitter astonishment, we had covered 12 or 14 temples in all on a single day in the cab and were finally dropped in kumbakonam railway station for our return.

so this time I thought of covering gangaikonda cholapuram in addition to our prime travel destination of vaitheeswaran temple.

Also thinking of thirunallam, one of my close friends place and which boasts of having the largest bronze nataraja idol.

and our travel would be by train from Chennai and the return too by the same mode of transport.

Please suggest a good plan to cover these places(mainly vaitheeswaran temple and gkc puram). Coverage of the navagraha temples too will be a plus.

Our travel would be confined to a day or maximum of two. Also requesting some good places of stay if at all we are going to stay for one more day.

Im no expert in the area, but in July we visited GKC Puram and Konerirajapuram [Thirunallam]. If you contact our member PMVelu, he can give you a lot more detail about this region.

As you will probably want to visit Vaitheeswaran koil at some auspicious time, you could stay overnight at Kumbakonam where there is plenty of accomodation at all budget ranges, so as to start out early.

Depending on your timings, Konerirajapuram is barely half an hour drive from Kumbakonam, off the Karaikal road. There is a right turn at S. Pudur, through paddy fields upto KRPM village. A public bus also plies this route from Kumbakonam bus stand. The priest at Thirunallam, Gnanaskandan is very friendly and helpful, he will certainly let you see the large bronze Nataraja idol and several more ancient Chola bronzes in the ante room.

Gangaikondacholapuram is about 45min drive to the North of Kumbakonam on the Chennai road. You will need at least half a day to see everything. Personally, I was more impressed with Darasuram which is about 3km from Kumbakonam on the Swamimalai route.

If you like, you can see some photos here or at http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog...6600/tpod.html
