Pondicherry
Hi there,
Has anyone been to Pondicherry? My friend and I are planning a weekend trip from Bangalore and it looks pretty amazing. If anyone has any suggestions on what to see, shopping then please let me know. Is it cheaper then Bangalore for shopping? We are on a budget so if you have any ideas for accommodation that would be great. Also how much would a return train ticket be? We are looking at leaving Friday and come back Sunday. Thanks! Shareen |

if you search the Tamil Nadu forum, you will find lots of threads about Pondy....
maybe a mod can move this thread to the pertinent forum.....

Hi Ragu,
Have you stayed at this Hotel? It looks ok and central but it's hard to tell. We want somewhere central to the beach, shops, temples etc. Thanks, Shareen |

Hi Shareen,
Yes, I did stay in the hotel in 2007. Its a decent hotel for the tariff quoted and yes it is in the centre of the town. Just few minutes away from the central market street ( Jawaharlal Nehru Street ) and about ten mins walk to the Beach and the Ashram. Below is the link to Pondy where you can get complete info about Pondy. http://www.thepondicherry.com/puducherry/main.php Regards, Raghu |

Hi again,
This Hotel is a good location but we are looking at something cheaper. Maybe a guest house. If anyone else has any suggestions on where to stay on a budget please let me know. The beach near this Hotel is also a rocky beach and you can't swim, although in saying that it's not far from the sandy beaches. Thanks again, Shareen |

Hi Shareen,
There are umpteen guest houses on low budgets ( less than 1000 ) but unfortunately I am not aware. The Mother Ashram itself has got guest houses and would accomodate people through known references. May be one of the IM members might give you some lead after reading this post. The beach is close, but certainly you cannot access the sea from the main beach in Pondy. You would need to go the ECR side of Pondy, if you would like to take a dip. Raghu Quote:

in August I was staying at this guesthouse:
http://swades-guesthouse.com/ and I liked it very much, very convenient location, minutes to the beach and close to all major shopping streets |
