Me and my parents want to visit tamil nadu for 8 days ( apart from travelling time reqd for Tatanagar -> Tirupati and Chennai -> Tatanagar )
After browsing some of the posts I have decided that my schedule should look like .. Just can't decide as to spend how much time in which place --

Tirupati -> chennai train
Chennai -> Pondicherry by road [ On the way visit Mahabalpuram and Muttukadu ]
Pondicherry -> Villuparam bus
Villuparam -> Thanjavur
Thanjavur -> Rameswaram
Rameswaram -> Madurai
Madurai -> Kanyakumari
Kanyakumari -> Chennai
And then back to Jamshedpur

These are the places I want to visit ... if u feel 8 days is too less a time then plz let me know which places I can leave out apart from Tirupati , Rameswaram and Kanyakumari

Hoping for a fast reply as I am planning to start my tour on 4th June

Welcome to Indiamike Funbird,

Your plan looks fine. Instead of going to Rameswaram directly from Tanjavur, Change the route and go to rameswaram via Madurai. So that you dont have to do a trip up and down from Tanjore - Rameswaram - Madurai and Kanyakumari.

Once you are done with Madurai and then you reach Rameswaram, you can go to kanyakumari from there. Although Rameswaram to kanyakumari is a 10 Hrs Drive and you do have overnight buses.

Note: There are direct buses from Pondicherry to Tanjavur via Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam. You can take them if you dont have any specific thing to be done in Villupruam.

Have Fun and do write back if you need any further clarifications.

With Warm Regards

Pondicherry - 1- 1.5 days (Aravindhar Ashram, Beaches, Manakula Vinayagar Temple, Museum)
Thanjavur - 1 Day (Brahadeeswarar Temple)
Rameswaram - 1 - 1.5 days (Dhanushkodi, Main Temple, Beaches)
Madurai - 1 - 1.5 Day (Meenakshi Amman Temple, Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal, Thiruparangundram Temple)
Kanyakumari - 1 - 1.5 Days (Vivekananda Rock, Sunrise and Sunset Point, Beaches)
Chennai - 1 Day (Mylapore Kabaliswarar Temple, Shopping malls, Beaches)

It makes 8 Days totally. (Boy, Now it looks tight )

Kanyakumari is the place where you can try for Ayurvedic Massage.

I am in a dilemma as to visit Kanyakumari first after Tirupati and then go in a upward direction in order to avoid the monsoons or stick with the earlier plan of going down and finishing at Kanyakumari ....
btw I got my 50Rs darshan ticket for tirupati on 6th june ... so hopefully I will be able to finish darshan within 11:00 am
Regarding the monsoons i have heard that it rains more during NE monsoons than SW monsoons . is it so ? and if not whether it is OK to travel then

What time is the specified time for your dharshan. You will be allowed upto 1 hour in advance inside the complex.

Is this your first trip to Tirumala?

Well, Visiting Kanyakumari after tirupati is also a good idea although there is only one train from tirupathi which leaves by 1215 PM. Isnt it too short a time.

Yes this will be my first time in Tirumala and the time of darshan is 11:00 a.m
We can go on Kanyakumari Express the day after the darshan ...
Please clear my doubts about the monsoons ... will the weather conditions be OK for travelling ??

btw Are there any buses from Tirupati to Kanyakumari ...
and how is the road from Kanyakumari to Rameshwar .

If your dharshan timing is 1100 hrs, you may come out only after 1300 hrs or sometimes even later than that.

So there is no way, you are going to catch up the train which leaves by 1215 hrs.

Yes, Rains are more in NE monsoon than the SW monsoon.

There are no buses from Tirupathi to Kanyakumari. You can probably try and catch up the train from Chennai to Kanyakumari after you travel to chennai from Tirupathi

Roads are good between Kanyakumari and Rameswaram as they are National Highways.

my trip has already started on the wrong note
I could not get a tatkal ticket on Tata-Yeshwantpur today .... the site IRCTC would not open and after 8:30 it was already WL 14 ....
nw I have planned to go by hwh-yeshwantpur on the 5th june ( boarding at KGP ) with the ticket at the mercy of the agent
Is there any way to change Tirupati's darshan ticket or we just to have buy a new ticket ?
IS there any problem if we get the 50 Rs darshan ticket at Tirupati only .

You cant change the ticket. You can 50 Rs ticket there also in Tirupathi and Tirumala. Timing will be announced only when you buy the ticket.

Went to Tirumala today morning. Took 300 Rs ticket and the dharshan was over in exactly 2 hours. It was swift once the line started moving.

Tirumala was crowded to the peak today. Heard the hundi collection is more than 2.7 crore yesterday.
