It's difficult to think of a quicker way that a train to Kochi, then a bus.

Or maybe a train to Shoranur, then to Coimbatore, then a bus.

Can't help with the train number you give, it's not relevant to your question.

This gives you the possible options of traveling by train from Madgaon to Kodaikanal road.

It will take you at least 38 hours.

Hello Deck

A 'slip route' is when a train divides into 2 at a set station, normally the front portion goes forward in one direction, and the rear portion gets a new engine (or gets attached to another train) and goes forward in a different direction.

The Navyug express(16688) starts it's journey in Jammu, it then gets to Erode Jn, and one part of the train departs Erode at 08:15 and heads via Shoranur to Mangalore, the other part of the train departs Erode at 08:55 and heads via Kodaikanal Rd and Madurai to Tirunelveli.

Unfortunately, that means the portion of the train that gets to Shoranur will then be heading north to Mangalore, the portion heading towards Madurai will have been separated a few hours earlier at Erode Jn.

You could get a train to Shoranur, then a bus (or train) to Palghat, then a bus to Palani, then a bus up the hill to Kodaikanal, this route is said to be very scenic, and I feel sure this will be the quickest option.

I saw a routing with 2 transfers, i.e., Mangalore and Erode, which takes close to 22 hrs. Check this out, Madgaon - Mangalore by train no 12133, Mangalore - Erode by train no 12686 and Erode - Kodai Road by train no. 16732. As per this link, you would depart Madgaon by 8.35 AM and reach Kodai Road by 6.35 AM the next day. The only inconvenience I see in this is that the train reaches Erode at 1.40 AM, which is pretty odd. But if you can manage that, I think this is doable. Or from Erode or Tiruppur, you might opt to take a bus to Palani, from where you may go to Kodaikanal. This is the other side. The same train reaches Tiruppur by 12.40 AM i.e 0040 hrs. You might opt to saty in Tiruppur or head to Palani, which would be a 2 hrs drive. So, by around 4 AM, you should be at Palani, from where you may hire a cab or board a bus(avbl only after 6.30 AM), the ones which come from other places to reach Kodai.
