Friends

I am planning to travel with my wife, 10 month old son(he can't sit in one place for more than 5 mins ) & my mom(50+) to Palani temple & Madurai temple for 3 days from blore. This is a spiritual trip.

We have visited Madurai once before & would hence like to spend more time at Palani. We can even drop Madurai if there are more temples to visit near to Palani

I need your help.

1. I am planning to take tuticorin exp from blore.Which station is better for Palani visit-- dindugal or Kodai road ( i am planning to take a taxi from the railway station)

2.How much does it cost from Dindual to Palani or Kodai Rd to Palani by taxi & how much time does it take?

3.Should i visit madurai first of palani first ? < Pls note -i need to spend more time at Palni for my son's mundan/mottae>

4.How much does it cost to hire a taxi from Palani to Madurai & how much time does it take?

5.Which hotel do you recommend for an overnigt stay at Palani ?

6.Does any recommendations for Poojari at palani for Mundan/mottae ?

7.Any temple visits near to Palani & how much time i should keep for the same.

8.Any temple visits do you recommend between Palani & Madurai (on the way)

Thank you in advance

Ram

Ram, My comments inline in bold..

1. I am planning to take tuticorin exp from blore.Which station is better for Palani visit-- dindugal or Kodai road ( i am planning to take a taxi from the railway station)

Dindugal is better.. If you are getting down in dindugal Railway Station, an Auto will cost you around 30 Rs to Dindugal bus stand [ This is the auto charge we payed 2 years back @5.15 am ]

2.How much does it cost from Dindual to Palani or Kodai Rd to Palani by taxi & how much time does it take?

FYI, From Dindugal, you have buses to palani almost every 5 minutes.. Hence no compelling need for taxi and all of these buses starts from dindugal bus stand itself. You could select the bus you need and make this journey very comfortably .. Taxi , I don't have any idea..

3.Should i visit madurai first of palani first ? < Pls note -i need to spend more time at Palni for my son's mundan/mottae>

As you specified already you visited Madurai, I would say, you first Visit Palani , Stay for a night there and may be have 2 Dharshans in the hill temple and then you might proceed to Madurai .. Palani to Madurai bus frequency is apprixmately 15 to 20 minutes once Or else you could get a bus to Dindugal and get another bus to Madurai [Frequency is 10 minutes once in Day time in this circuit]

4.How much does it cost to hire a taxi from Palani to Madurai & how much time does it take?

Sorry for repeating but in this cirucit ,No compelling need for taxi as such but yes, you could take a call..By bus it will take 2 to 2.5 hours from Palani to Madurai

5.Which hotel do you recommend for an overnigt stay at Palani ?

We Visited palani 5 months back and we stayed in Hotel Subham which is very near to Adivaram and is Calm , Budget and good! But there are so many other hotels too nearer to this adivaram !
6.Does any recommendations for Poojari at palani for Mundan/mottae ?

No need for this as such and this might invite unneccessary trouble only.. In Palani Hilltop, there is no "Tonsuring" Facility available .. In all around the Adivaram, there are devasthanam's Tonsuring place where you could utilise the services and get back to your hotel room for Bathing [ Public Bathrooms /toilets are there but We didn't liked it and they will provide only one Bucket of Hot water and it's not so clean kind of ]. After Bath, you could climb up the steps [ 650 + steps] and if you take this route after half way, there will be two Paths, one is having same steps and the "Left" path is "Elephant path" which will be like Plain road with gentle elevation and this is very much comfortable when compared with the "Steps" especially for kids and Ladies. Once you reach the top, you could get "Special Darshan ticket" for Rs 100/ and that's fast track queue !.. Also there is one "Bogar Samathi " -- {Siddhar } in the "Praharam" of Murugan temple and that will be an interesting one...

General Pointers:-

1) In Palani, the touts , Beggars, are really too much [Especially nearer to Adivaram] and hence you get down at bus stand and auto is around 15 rs [Even though it's 1 km only] to adivaram[ Means Starting point to Hill temple] and you could get room as per your choice and do the rituals and you could get back to Dindugal or Madurai as planned ...
2) If you are interested, you could get an auto to "shanmuga nadhi" which is supposed to be sacred
3) For Panchamirtham [ Famous in palani], you could get it from siddhanathan and sons shop near to adivaram as We bought both in hilltop from Temple Devsathanam counter as well as in "siddhanathan and sons" shop and found this S&S panchamirtham better in quality !
4) If you want fun for your kids, you could engage Horse cart from Palani bus stand to Temple and YES , Still horse carts are very much in use in palani ....
5) There are "Winch Facility" as Well as "Push-Pull kind of Coach" from Adivaram to the top ! .. But these might be crowded and needs some waiting time as compared to the crowd these Facilities are limited only....

7.Any temple visits near to Palani & how much time i should keep for the same.

As Said, Try to Visit "Shanmuga Nadhi" and nearer to this I don't think any other famous temple .. Just FYI, Kodaikanal is just 3 hours away from Palani and you have ample buses to Kodaikanal, If at all you have time and interested, you could try out !
8.Any temple visits do you recommend between Palani & Madurai (on the way)
I don't think any famous temples on the way !..

Hope this helps & Please post if you need more info !

Regards
Velu

Yes Sir ! I Read / Am Reading your post ... In fact, the hotel we stayed is Hotel Subham [ Hotel subham is budget .. We paid 800 Rs / night for Double bedded on "Thai-Poosam Day"[The Most Auspicious Day in palani] and this is with A/C and TV and they provided hot water in Bucket ] and their business class hotel is Vel's Court which is high-end and it's for sure the best in palani . We Just Saw Vel's Court as these Subham Folks told a lot about the high-end hotel!!....

I am from Malaysia. We will be in Tirichy around 25-2-09. We hope to go to Arupadai veedu Navageraha temples and Tirupathi. We have to leave Tiruchy on 3-3-09. I wonder wheather there is any tour package on the above basis ie Trcy- trcy. I do not wish to travel by car. My previous experience with Indian drivers is scary. As we find the roads too narrow for our comfort we feel safer in atour bus. By the way, My wife is coming along. I would greatly appreciate any advice on the above. Tks

Hi Murali,

From Trichy , I don't think that kind of package is available. Did you tried tamilnadu government's package tour ?.

As chennai just 5 hours away in Train / Volvo A/C buses, you could reach chennai and try out the following tailor-made packages.

One Day Tirumala Darshan:-

followed by

4 Days Arupadai veedu Darshan:-

http://www.ttdconline.com/tourdetails.aspx?tourid=14

Hope this helps

Thier is no reputed tour operator in tiurchi who will take you to tiruchi -Arupadai veedu -Navageraha temples - Tirupati -tiruchi
This is my suggestion :
Travel to chennai and visit tirupathi thru tamil nadu tourism. This will save you a lot of head ache with queues, room, darshan etc;
From chennai you can book the Arupadai veedu -Navageraha temples tours and get down some where near tiruchi instead of chennai and fly back to malayasia.
I think you made a mistake by booking malayasia - tiruchi - malayasia and keeping tirupati in mind. Tiruati is close by to chennai and one of the arupadai temples is close by to kanyakumari. If you can re shedule your journey like malayasia - chennai - malayasia nothing to beet it.
Any more clarificiations please post.
