ooty tour querry...information needed abt mudumailai reseve forest safari

i have planned to go to ooty and i have a querry regarding bandipur and mudumailai reserve forest viist

>>can both be done on the same day
>>do we need special permissions
>> i heard that for jungle safari tourists has to wait for very long time
>> do we need to start early from ooty to get to mudumailai jungle safari
>>staying options there

please suggest us when to start from ooty or what permission is needed if we devote one day for the reserve forests

mhalder:
go to one or the other.
total waste of time visiting both - they're in the same vicinity.

bandipur

yes,

do only one. mudhumalai is enough for jeep or bus safari.

no need to go earlierly to catch bus safari in mudhumalai.several buses operate for jungle safari.

you dont need special permissions.

tamilnadu guest house is there, but you can easily return to ooty. if you wish to stay there, just ask there for availability.

Masinagudi is a small village just outside the Mudumalai Sanctuary, and on the way to Ooty from Mudumalai. At best it can be an option for accommodation as there are a few resorts in and around Masinagudi.

Masinagudi is "just a small village outside Mudumalai" as Bigzero aptly puts it. There are also several tour operators here offering treks and jeep tours at competitive rates into the non core area of Mudumalai [often sneaking into peripheral core areas as well]. If you find long queues for the Mudumalai safari, you can always find something suitable here. As far as I remember, the Mudumalai mini bus timings are 7am and 2pm.

Check the forest dept site at http://www.forests.tn.nic.in/WildBio...ty/np_mnp.html

If driving from Ooty to Masinagudi via Thalaikundah ghat road [rt turn on Ooty Pykara rd] you will also pass through peripheral areas of the forest - mostly scrub and thorn. If you go the much longer route from Ooty via Gudalur to Theppekadu, there are much better evergreen forests as it is also contiguous to Muthanga / Bandipur / Nagarhole.
