I was there in Jan 08 and the train service between Mettupalayam and Ooty was operational, dont remember the timings but can be checked on http://www.indianrail.gov.in/

It is possible that landslides during the recent spell of unseasonal rains may have damaged the tracks, which ought to be checked, but as far as I know, the news reported damage on the Kotagiri Dodabetta road which is not even on the same side as the railway track. Anyway always better to check.
