I was there in Jan 08 and the train service between Mettupalayam and Ooty was operational, dont remember the timings but can be checked on

It is possible that landslides during the recent spell of unseasonal rains may have damaged the tracks, which ought to be checked, but as far as I know, the news reported damage on the Kotagiri Dodabetta road which is not even on the same side as the railway track. Anyway always better to check.
