Need help : Visiting Tanjavur and Tiruvaiyyaru for Musical Festival in Jan

I am planning a visit to Tiruvaiyyaru and Tanjore on the occasion of "Thyagaraja Aradhana 2008" to be held on 27th January. For those of you don't know what it is about, it is about celebrating the life of Saint Tyagaraja and his composition through a musical tribute. Saint Tyagaraja is considered one of the trinity of Carnatic music.

I need some suggestions for travel and accommodation in Tiruvaiyyaru and Tanjore. I am based in Bangalore. I am not sure whether it make sense to drive there or to take a train? Trains are already showing WL status around those dates.

1. How much time is required to drive from Bangalore to Tanjore?
2. Which is the best route?
3. What are the options for decent accommodation in Tanjore? Names of the hotels please.
4. I may have about two days to spare after the event. What are the must-see places around Tanjore?

bangalore-salem(200km)-namakkal(50km)-trichy(75km)-tanjore(50km) is one of the best route.

assume the time for the kms.

near by bus stand,lots of decent hotels available.

tanjore to thiruvayaru is around 12kms.

in tanjore,tanjore big temple is very must to see. dont miss it.

if u have any time,try upto swami malai murugan temple,around 40 kms from tanjore on the way to kumbakonam from thiruavayaru or tanjore.

I was thinking of taking the route Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Thiruvannamalai (stay there for a night, visit temple etc). I am not sure how to reach Tanjore from TV malai? How long it may take and what is the condition of the roads.
