Mamallapuram -Tiruvannamalai -Pondicherry
Hello,
I am new on this forum. Could you please let me know how long it takes to drive from Mamallapuram to Tiruvannamalai and from Tiruvannamalai to Pondichery. Mapmyindia.com gives me a result of 4h47 by road for Mamallapuram/Tiruvannamalai and Yahoo 2h50. It's quiet confusing.I will be travelling by taxi + driver. Do you think I can afford this in one day. If you have any information please let me know. Thanks. |

Hi
M'puram to Thiruvannamalai is about 130-140 KMs (3 hours drive). TVMalai to Pondi is 100 Kms (2.5 hours). M'puram to Pondi itself is only 90 odd KMs (2 hours). Drive times - approx and depending on the traffic conditions. HTH slakhs

Thank you,
OK, by taxy, we can make it in one day. Do you think we'll have time to stop in Gingee and visit the temple in Tiruvannamalai. Or is it too ambitious? PS I will travel end of July (very hot) with 4 children. |

Paris,
It's better to Travel from Mamallapuram to Pondicherry followed by a Visit to Gingee fort (This is just on the way & much nearer to Tiruvanamalai) and ending at Tiruvanamalai. I'm confused. Are you planning to do all of this in a single day ?. That will be too much for a day . This is just my view !. Happy travelling. |

Gingee is very nice and the view is amazing, once you climbed up all the steps - but it will be hot. take enough water. we went to Tiru after that and were pretty tired for seeing the temple + ashram, because it has been a very hot day. but actually its ok as a 1 day-trip. pondi is great, and not far from mamallapuram - our busdriver did need 1,5 hours (depending on traffic and drivingstyle, i guess) . |

Thank you for all your answers. I will anyway see how the children adapt themselves to the heat. If everything is OK,I think I will stop at Gingee and forget Tiruvannamalai. I thought it was too far for one day and obviously it is. Unfortunately, I don't have an extra nignt to spend.
