Madurai to Pondicherry

Has anyone done this ?

A long bus trip I imagine but one it looks like I may have to take

Any experiences to share RE comfort, Distance, Sleeper services etc??

I suggest hiring a taxi. That road to Pondy is death on a bus.

Journey time by bus is 8 hrs.I'd recommend train but there is one change at Villupuram
eg 2636 VAGAI EXP DEP MADURAI 06.45 ARR VILLUPURAM 11.55
195 TIRUPATI PONDY PASSENGER DEP VILLUPURAM 12.20 ARR PONDY 13.10

OTHERWISE TAKE ANY TRAIN EX MADURAI TO VILLUPURAM THEN 1 HOUR BUS JOURNEY.PLENTY OF BUSES ORIGINATE IN VILLUPURAM SO YOU CAN GET A SEAT!

I'd recommend the overnight train. Arrives Villupuram early morning from where there are regular buses.
