Madurai Meenakshi temple -renovated yet?

hi everyone,

We're travelling to Madurai in early September and wondering if anyone knew whether or not the renovations at the Meenakshi temple were complete?

I actually emailed the temple with this question and they replied" In our temple major renovation works are finished"...but I'm not sure if this includes the gopurams.

Help appreciated as this will determine time spent in this part of Tamil Nadu.

oh yeah, I am interested in that also. I only have found out these days that there are renovations going on. I really hope they have finished by the time I will be there (end of August).

If not, it will be just a reason for me to come back another time, lol, which will not be so bad neither.

I was there April 15, and the kumbabhishekam (12 year renovation) was finished. Gopurams were clear, but there still was construction like debris lying around waiting to be cleared up. The thousand pillared hall was extremely dusty to walk in, but then I'm not sure what it was like before the renovation.

you will see that some people who went there after the Kumbhabhishekham were not particularly happy with renovation work.

I couldn't find this link on Mike, and am sorry if it is already here. Buts a really excellent virtual tourist. Seems the pictures of Madurai are since the renovation.
