Loafing about in Puducherry
Hello IMers
I have a few weeks off and intend to spend anything from 4 days to a week in Puducherry. I should have been there last weekend, but a rare untimely bout of fever is helping me postpone by a day everyday. All I want to do is bicycle around, read a few of the many unread books lying about in my personal collection, and recuperate, ponder, muse, laze, eat, nap, stroll about, in no particular order. I am looking for airy well ventilated accommodation with room for more than just a bed (yoga) no carpeting (dust mites + fake sophistication) with verandah so I need not spend the whole day out in the hot sun. And no roomboys or watchful waiters interrupting my reverie with unwanted attention . Preferably a place with a fridge and mini kitchen and utensils where I can make my own morning tea? And NO T.V. The description fits a homestay I guess ? Could spend a few days in Auroville yes, but I dont know if any tours or educational events are scheduled for this time of the year? Any such facilities around? TIA Regards |

We stayed here : the only hotel bang on the sea face/promenade, besides the Ashram place.
http://www.ajanthaseaviewhotel.com/ bang on the sea face, airconditioned, sea facing large balcony, fridge, huge room- no kitchenette- no carpets, had TV I think (but you can keep it off )Average service, but not terrible. Room decor is slightly kitschy, but what the hell. A week may be too long, but depends on how much you need to recuperate, I guess. It is far from Auroville, if that matters. But it is in the best (quietest, most relaxed) part of town and good to walk around a bit. Hot as hell most of the time, though. We just landed up and haggled. PS: some room pics here, also google http://images.google.co.in/imgres?im...3DN%26um %3D1

I found this site useful when planning my trip- or not planning it, as I am wont to do
![]() http://tourism.pondicherry.gov.in/ Check out the ashram guest houses. No smoking and other restrictions, but much cheaper. Pondicherry will be very hot whenever the sun is out. We skipped around on some beaches in October, squealing, not in delight but because of the burning sand. |

Take a bus from the bus stand. It willl drop you at a place close to the Ashram Tourist Center. You will have to walk a bit from the place bus would drop you.
