Life in vellore
Life in vellore
Hi All,
I am being transferred with my family to Vellore. I am concerned that vellore has no life for foreigners. I know it has an excellent hospital so I assume there are some professionals there.
I am worried and thinking it may be better to organise my wife and daughter to live in Chennai or bangalore.
Anybody have an expereince?
I have see the VIT university and was impressed but apart from that there was little to see and do.
Thanks
Jonesy

vellore is one of the hottest places in tamil nadu, other than that their is no problem as such in vellore. It is as safe as any other tier III city in south india. You may not get good entertainment places, shopping malls and hotels like chennai /bangalore.
i studied in vellore for four long years. its extremely hot, dry and crowded. it has improved a lot over the last 3-4 years. the Ida scudder school there is top class.. the docs at CMC have their own exclusive clubs/associations, so if u're joining there, u would be among some very nice folks.
putting up ur family in chennai is a good option.. travel time betn vellore and chennai by car is down to 2 hs max.. and loads of trains.. so that's not a bad idea!!

there are a few folks who work in the leather units in and around vellor who's families are in chennai.
However, vellore does have its own group of academia. And as pointed out the travel time is about 2 hours (think of it as a LOOONG commute!
)
my suggestion - go there- check it out personally - and then decide on the relocation. Being in a new country is one thing- but being seperated in the new country is a totally different thing.
