Late April/May weather - too hot?

I will be in the south of india for most of april and the beginning of may...I am a bit nervous about the heat. We'll be in hill stations for part of it. How bad is it at this time? Are the beaches super hot as well?

You have to be much more specific about where you are going.

We can say that up in the hills it will be much cooler.

But there will be big differences between, for instance, coastal Kerala and Chennai.

Chennai will be roasting: could be 40-plus, although there's a chance of rain (wasn't any last May). Kerala will be a lot cooler, 30-something. In Kerala the monsoon will start first-week of june, here it doesn't.

The rest of TN will be pretty-damned hot too, although they tell me it can be more comfortable and less humid further South than Chennai.

Too hot . . .

. . . for what? As a Portland resident for over 13 years I can tell you that April through August (in Varanasi)(I spent February though August there) was too hot for mostly everything . . . but I did survive . . . wouldn't do it again . . . wouldn't have missed it for the world. The best time to go to India is when you can go. Have A Great Trip. Scott

I visited India and stayed in Tamil Nadu, right outside of Pondicherry for close to 4 months. I arrived Jan 1st and left April 26. I can deff say the heat changed considerably while i was there and it was getting hotter by the day. May, June, and July i believe are the hottest months in that area.
