Kottayam District to Coimbatore?

I have to get from Vechoor (nr Kottayam and Vaikom) to Coimbatore in one day.
Question for any of you: it seems the route, while it would take couple hours longer, would be more scenic via Munnar, than via the Kochi-Thrisur-Palakkad route.
Or, there's a train from Kottayam to Coimbatore--a 6 hour journey.

I realize it would be longer by road, and it's a heck of long trip for one day, but there'd be more frequent chance for "leg-stretching" and "pit-stops" and tea-breaks, by hiring a driver.

Ideas? Feedback? Thank you in advance--IMers are THE BEST!!!

Scenic route if you can spare the day. Munnar to CJB is via Udumalpettai and Pollachi, there are densely forested areas and sanctuaries en route. Several routes from Kottayam to Munnar check mapmyindia.com for a basic idea, but perhaps someone who has actually done this stretch could give better ideas.
