I had exactly the same experience! And the people there all looked miserable, just like London people; it wasn't like being in India!

I'll give it another try, out of monsoon time, one day.

...No. I won't; I'll stay in Coonoor; even in the monsoon the climate was pleasant.

munnar takes more time travel when compared with kodaikkanal.

if u want to avoid more time travel, kodaikkanl is best for 2 days.this town is also quit.very good climate and various sight seeing places to see.

munnar is surrounded by mostly tea estates. chillnes is slightly lesser than kodaikkanal.

if you want to visit calmness places, muunar is best.

if you want to enjoy chillnes climate, kodaikkanal is best.

if you want to around commercial places, various spots in one place, shopping places, etc. ooty is best.

in out side the ooty city, there were many more places likely to visit when compared to kodaikkanal and munnar.

if you like ooty, fly to coimbatore.

visit only one place for 2 days. dont go two places.this will not useful.

dont stay in city lodges.stay out side the city. try to asked somebody to eat homemade foods.

my recommendations,

ooty -

indu photo`s guest house.oppsite to hindustan photo factory.6 km from ooty.very very good place and reasonble fare(rs.375) room quality is equal to big hotels.

munnar :-

last time i stayed in homestay guest house named `kurunchi cottage`.located at teachers colony,3 km far from the city.they also prepared food(home style) at cottage. my family liked the food very much(both veg and non veg).

kodaikanal:-

nearby cookers walk,(2km) youth hostel named....if u visit that place, you wont go anyother places.it is very nice place and have good locations behind the hostel.dont miss it.

dont eat in hotels..try this accomadations or try to search homemade foods.

hope this will help you,let me know if any other information do you need...

suresh babu.

coorg is the best bet for the distance + homestays. ooty and kodai towns have been reduced to 'slums'. if you are the exploring types, stay away from the towns.

if you're going to kodai, i reccomend summer creek, 20kms out of town, after poombarai village (observatory road). they have cottages with room service and they'll take you around if u have a capable vehicle.

Ooty trip

[quote=radhagkrishna;520438]Dear suresh babu,

Dear Suresh,

I am planning to go to ooty on sep 21. I have been browsing various websites for the accomodation there. Every hotel seems to be good on website. But if i see the reviews they are really worst hotels. I frightned to book such sort of hotels.

As per your recommendation i am planning to stay in Indu's guest house. Reg that i have some queries.

1) Will it be suitable for families? Bcoz i am planning to stay with my wife for 6 days.
2) How would be the food quality?
3) Any places to visit there nearby?
4) How is the service?

Please give me some more input reg that guest house.

or i told u my plan that is for 5 to 6 days in ooty. Please suggest me good idea...

If possible give me the phone numbers also. so that i can book in advance.

Regards,
Radha Krishna

If anyone is in the vicinity of Munnar, I wholly recommend staying in Pothamedu, which is a village just outside town, set in the middle of cardamom and coffee plantations. You can chill out and enjoy nature, walks, a very calm and serene spot.

Ooty and Kodai are congested places and you can not have the charm of journey. You can visit Thekkady and Munnar or Munnar alone.
plan as below
Madurai to Munnar (Via Bodimettu) -- Journey time - 4 to 5 hrs.
Plan site seeing in and arround Munnar for a day.
Return to Coimbatore via Udumalaipettai.
Munnar to Udumalaipettai Journey time 3 hrs.
Udumalaipettai to Coimbatore Journey time 3 hrs.

hi radha,

1.good for family.i stayed with my wife,my son(4yrs),and my sister.the room is very big.but no t.v.this is guest house established for chief guests from indhu photo factory.they also rent for tourists.i have photo of that guest house.later i will post.any way, tastes is vary one person to another.so,try directly,if u will not satisfied there were lots of hotels available in ooty.in sep, room availabilty will not be a problem in all areas.

2.we were all vegetarians.they prepared veg as well.dont know about non veg taste.this not a big commercial hotel.there were no crowd.at that time around 2 or 3 rooms only booked.

3.most of the tourist places on the way to this place.e.g.pykara,mudhumalai,gl enmorgan,6th mile etc.etc.this guest house is located on the way to mysore road from ooty around 6 kms.

4.service,we didnt expect any service from them.though service is good.

where will u start the programme? in ooty,2n/3d is enough.

if u have 5-6 days, you could easily add wayanad for 2 days around 80 kms from ooty.

ooty(pykara dam,6th mile,botonical garden,if possible try to western catchment)
coonoor(dolphin nose)
mudhumalai(jungle safari)
wayanad(tea and coffe estates,edakkal caves,pookote lake)

if u send me your programme days, budget, starting and finishing place, etc,i will make itinerary for you.

waiting for your reply.
