Help needed for trip from Mysore to Ooty

Hello friends,

I will be in Mysore in November, and I would like to take the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (Toy Train) from Mettupalayam to Ooty.

What is the best way to get from Mysore to Mettupalayam, and how long does it take?

I also want to visit Nagarhole. Can I easily travel between Nagarhole and Mettupalayam? Or should I travel round-trip between Mysore and Nagarhole, and a separate round-trip between Mysore and Mettupalayam?

Thanks for your help.

mysore to mettupalayam is a 8 hour drive by bus and you need to go via ooty. there are a very few buses which go directly from mettupalayam to ooty. instaed you can go to ooty and take the downtrain to mettupalayam and stay in mettupalayam and come back the next day again by train if you like. but remember to book your ticket well in advance.

From Mysore, Ooty by bus is 5 hours journey ! . From ooty to Mettupalaiyam you can do the Toy train Journey !

If you are particular & want to do only Mettupalaiyam to Ooty , From mysore, in Cab it's around 4 1/2 hours [ No need to climb ooty and get down to mettupalaiyam. Instead the cab will take Dhimbham Ghat road , Bhavani sagar dam to reach mettupalaiyam]. If you want to do this is bus, You need to board "Sathy" bound bus from Mysore and from Sathy, get Mettupalaiyam bound bus !..

On you second Question, For Mysore to Nagarahole, Cab is advisable. From Nagarahole ,you can ask your cabwallah to Drop in Ooty ! [ Atleast around 6 hours Journey] . Clubbing NAgarahole & Ooty and if you would like to do it by bus, it will be uncomfortable BUT it's very much possible with 3 bus changes and no need to get back to Mysore in between ! --> Cab is advisable !!

Hope this Helps
