I've never experianced the Kurusadai Islands but i have scuba dived in the Gulf of Mannar from the town of Tuticorin. It wasn't bad, i went and visited a man made reef and saw some great things although the visibility was pretty poor. Found some great sea shells on the shore as well.

I was there in March and it wasn't too bad, pretty hot but not as hot at it got in May or June. If you wan't to see some really good stuff i'd reccomend the Andaman Islands. Went diving there in Jan of 06 and loved every minute of it. Visibility was perfect and the coral reefs there seem to be endless and with a huge variety of fish and all other forms of coral reef life. I was there doing a survey of the reefs w/ a scientific team to determine how affected they were by the tsunami but there was little or no damage to the reefs we visited. The Nicobar islands however were hit harder and the coral reefs there were pretty bad.

Some of the reefs in the Andamans were in 30 feet of water so snorkeling wouldn't be the best but most were a perfect depth for snorkeling.

Hi,
Does anybody knows how you get permission to go to Kurusadai island. Obviously you need a permission of the fishering department in Chennai.
Kalbarri, have you been there finaly, can you let me know?

no i haven't been there yet but i think i read on a website that one can get a permit closer to the islands. i looked for you quickly, but couldn't find the info i was after. i did read on a MAPS OF INDIA site, info about the unique fish and coral in that area. sounds good. i will go there at some time. let me know your experience if you get there first, please.

As it's for the protection of the marine life, it is a very very valuable reason. It surely needs it. But I somewhere read that you can hire glass bottom boats... I'll let you know.
