From Cochin to Pondicherry ?
We will be travelling from Cochin to Pondicherry around the 24th of Jan. Is it possible to get there ONLY by train ? Maybe from Cochin to Thrissur and then to Pondicherry ?? We found a train (15hours) straight from Cochin to Chennai only....
Thanks |

I think Villupuram is the closest railway station for Pondicherry.
I feel a direct overnight train to Chennai and then by road to Pondicherry would be the most comfortable way to travel. |

Train 6866 departs Ernakulam Jn daily at 22.15 and gets to Trichy at 08.00 (2A, 3A, SL.) Train 2636 departs Trichy daily at 09.15 and gets to Villupuram at 11.55 (CC, 2S.) The connection is a bit tight if you wanted to just use Trichy to change trains.

If you have never been in this area before, traveling straight through to Pondy is a big mistake. Maybe you are on a tight schedule, or, don't know what is in between, but, you will miss some spectacular places of both beauty and cultural value. Madurai, Thanjavur, Chidambaram, are all worthy visits to their living temples. For me, this is so much of what India is about and what is worth seeing in the south. If you've already been to these places, kindly disregard my suggestions.
