Float festival in Madurai Feb 2006, and other festivals

I would like to verify the date for the float festival in Madurai in February 2006. I can't find the exact date on the internet, but it does say it is on the full moon which is February 13. Can anyone confirm this?
For anyone who has been to the festival: Is it worth the special effort to arrange my itinerary to be in Madurai on February 13?

I will be in Kerala and Tamil Nadu from Jan 23 to March 13. Are there any other festivals I should try to attend during that time?

If your are intersted in Indian dance there are festivals all over the south about that time. The dates for this year were late January at Mamallapuram, second week in Feburary at Madurai, and at Chidambaram during Maha Shivaratri(Feb /early March). The performances are at the temples so the setting is quite different than what you would get in an auditorium. I caught the performance at Mamallapuram and shot a few photos.....Dancer It helps to get there early and scoop the front seats if you are interested in photography. You won't need to use flash, and it probably disturbs the dancers. There was ample light at Mamalla from the spot lights, but don't forget to set your camera for artificial light if you are using digital. Also don't forget to set it back afterwards.
