Hello from California USA! My friends and I will be visiting Mumbai and Goa at the end of March. Does anybody know how/where we can try riding an elephant while in India? Surprisingly, there isn't a lot of "good" info about this on the Internet, and/or in several travel books I've read. Any thoughts, recommendations and ideas? Thanks!!

Don't know about Mumbai or Goa, but elephant riding is absolutely fantastic! Such large beasts, yet they move so gracefully and surprisingly silently.

If you are coming to Jaipur, an elephant ride is guaranteed! (Somewhat far from Mumbai though)

I believe Nagarhole is open all year, as well as Bandipur. Both have elephant rides.

Goa is pretty touristic and I guess you can find an elephant or two there. Guaranteed "rip off" & "lots of tourists"
Just checked on a Danish charter companys web page. They have an excursion called "Shanti: 2-days excursion in the nature with elephant riding, waterfalls and a visit to a local village". As charter companies seldom arrange anything on their own, it is probably a local sub contractor who is making the actual tour. That also means that you can buy it on the spot. |
