Question Chennai to Vellore Transport timings

Hello there,

I'll be arrving in Chennai by plane on Sunday morning at 3AM. Does anyone have any idea when the buses or trains start at that time of day on a Sunday, if they do at all?

Many thanks

Train journey should be more comfortable. The first two trains starting from chennai to katpadi:

2675 KOVAI EXPRESS CHENNAI CENTRAL 06:15 KATPADI JN 07:58
2639 BRINDAVAN EXP CHENNAI CENTRAL 07:15 KATPADI JN 09:08

There are buses from Koyambedu Bus Stand to Vellore from 4:00 am to 10:30 pm. Travel time would be around 3 hours
From the airport the distance to Koyambedu is around 15 kms

Question

Thats really great information. Thanks.

If the first train is at 6.15, I'll opt for the bus at 4am. From your experience, will it be safe to travel on at that time and have room to store my large rucksack?

I'll be very tired at that point and Im sure I wont be as vigilant as normal.

Thanks again

There should not be any problem to store your rucksack. Catching the 4 am bus would depend on when you leave the airport.

Hi Sans,

While commuting from the airport to Koymebedu bus terminus, please use the govt pre paid taxi. The counter is inside the arrival hall. As it would be early morning, you should not take a risk by opting to take an auto or a taxi outside the airport. I am talking from the safety point of view.

There would be buses to Vellore every half an hour. so if one bus is full, you can get in to the next bus. Navigating yourself inside the bus terminus would be slightly difficult as it is huge and we locals also sometimes struggle to locate the correct buststation. You may seek the help of "May I Help You " Police Counter at the entrance hall.

You can also use a free trolly to tug away your large rug sack, as you mentioned you would be tired.

Raghu thats all very helpful. Thanks for your response. I will use one of the pre-paid taxis to get to the bus station. Hopefully, I can get rupees from an ATM before I leave the airport and get on a bus immediately.

Much appreciated.
