Day1 April 10th 2009 :

I had woke up at my home in chennai @ 5.30 am on Apr 10th 2009..
I had already booked air ticket to coimbatore in SpiceJet flight.so i started off @ 6.30 from my home on friday and reached chennai airport @ 7.45 am. After check-in and other formalities over i had to wait 45 mins to board into flght. Here i have to mention one thing, i have spotted Tamil - Telugu-hindi film Actor Sidharth(acted in films like Boys in Tamil and Bommarilu in Telugu), He was there to board into Jet Airways Flight to hyderabad, some time later Jet Airways announced final boarding call for him, but it seems he is missing to board into aircraft.

flight took off @9 am from chennai, my next seat co-passenger is Mr.Dhevaram(Ex. DGP of Tamil Nadu). It was nice experience to see Chennai, from the sky which is almost 30000 feet altitude(when i booked my ticket itself i have chosen window seat for extra cost as it was first time experience with Air Craft), it cruised in the sky of Kanchipuram, Vellore, Salem, finally Coimbatore and landed Coimbatore Peelamadu airport @ 10 am,

From there i got local town bus to Ukkadam bus stand which took more time than Chennai - Coimbatore flight travel time.

I had nice lunch near to bus stand and purchased soaps from a shop kept in bag. Came to bus station to find out palakkad bus.

I found KSRTC(Kerala state road and Transport Corporation) bus to palakkad, it passed throuh Madukarai, walayar(tamilnadu-kerala border cehck post, where lot of lorries parked for checking) and palakad. Reached Palakad at 1.30 and had some juice to supress the hot.

My next destiantion was to Guruvayur, ultimately , i caught Straight guruvayur bus from palakad, it took around 2 hrs travel to guruvayur through some nice places. as i got window seat enjoyed seeing places..But Be careful of KSRTC buses for its rash driving.

Reached Guruvayur @ 4 pm,my plan is to spend 1 hr in temple.. but for my surprise, there was a board which indicated that, no baggages and cameras allowed inside temple premises,so i decided not to go to temple, then return back to guruvayur KSRTC bus station and enquired station master that when is the next bus available to Alleppey, He said it is @ 5.30 pm.so i had to wait roughly 1 hr,i went to hotel and had a dosa and coffe as tiffin.
I came back to bus station and sharply @ 5.30 one Super deluxe bus came in to bus station, i enquired whether will it got alleppy?

He said it is Trivandrum bound bus which pass through alleepy.Asked conductor when it will reach Allepy?, he replied it will @ 10.30 pm, luckily now also got window seat, mean time i have confirmed the room in alleppy which i reserved through phone 1 day before, they confirmed it is ready..

Bus left Guruvayur 5.40, as it was good friday day, there were procession along the road to church, no need to say about beautiful young kearalite christian girls. simply watched them ....

Around 6.45 it reached Thrissur bus station there halted for 10 mins, then started toward Cochin, throuh Chalakudi,Angamali,Aluva, and reached Cochin, ernakulam.MG ROad, and halted @ ernakulam KSRTC bus station for filling fuel tank. cochin and ernakulam was nice place to see @ night time,

journey started from Ernakulam , and passed thru cochin port backcwater bridge, nedumbaserry air port towards Alleppy which is still 80 kms apart.

After passing ernakulam, rain started pouring, but driver didn't slowed down the bus. i hope it might be 80 -100 kmph.
it passes through kayankulam, haripad and finally reached alleppy @ 10.30 pm, finally i entered Venice of east

Got down @ KSRTC bus station in Allepy and caught an auto to THARAYIL TOURIST HOME where i booked room. He took me 2 more kms along the canal.

And reached tourist home, owner (CHAKO)was in asleep, disturbed him, and he shown me the room, as i had tiffin in guruvayur, that too @ 5 pm, i was very hungry, asked him, whether any food items available for dinner. He asked his wify and later readied 4 chapathies and 1 omlet with dhall, which is very very tasty for my hungry, i simply enjoyed it. then planned for next day trip and fallen asleep. Day 1 is going to be end soon ....

DAY 2 April 11th 2009 :

My Mobile phone alarm woke me up @ 6 am, i had internet browsing for some time, then had nice chaai for the cool morning. As i enquired already about ferry service through back water to kottayam, i came to know that there is one ferry service starting @ 7.30 am from alleppey to kottayam.Ferry station is near to bus station, and as i stayed outskirt, i asked guest house owner to drop me in his bike at ferry station, he did so , and in last minute caught kottayam bound ferry(which is run by ALAPUZHA TOuRISM AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE), again Search for front corner seat, found it.

Ferry boat started cruising through scenic back water canal.
My real travel destination came true. It is really goodd to see so many house boats, coconut trees, houses on the side of backwater. I have taken so many pictures in digital cam.

Reached kottayam ferry station 10 am (2.30 hrs travel).
Captured some pics and had nice morning breakfast.

My next destination is to reach kollam(quilon). But i came to know that, there is no direct bus to kollam, so i decided agian to go to Alleppy through bus, as it is on the main route to kollam,

Bus travelled through Changanacheery(native of actress meera jasmine) and thiruvalla( native for actress NAYANTHARA).Reached Allepy after 1.30 hrs travel, now again i got Trivandrum bound bus to kollam, it is 2.30 hrs travel to kollam on the way to Trivandrum.

Kollam is old port city, there is also back water ferry station available next to KSRTC bus station, Allepy - to kollam backwater service 8 hrs travel.(But thru bus 2 hrs)

My ultimate destination is PUNALR- SENGOTTAI(Tamil nadu) Ghat Section Train..
As the broad gauge conversion is going between kollam to punalur, there are no trains. i caught again KSRTC bus to punalur through small hill road.

Reached punalur 4 30 pm. had lunch( it was delayed) as kerela style briyani. Not bad, but rice is kerala motta rice..
My dream is to travel on Punalur - sengottai hills train.

Came to punalur railway station and purchased ticket it is just Rs.8 only.. Train came @ 5. 45 pm. i crossed the track and caught window seat.. Train is full of tamil people who returns home to tamil nadu after their daily work , as hill road is closed from punalur to sengottai, Tamil nadu people had to depend only on these train..

Train started @ 6 10 pm. it fully travelled through greeny and hilly forest(i belive next to ooty-mettupalayam, this is the only train travels in hill station in tamil nadu). But unfortunately i couldn't catch much pics as it became dark).. But i spotted so many villages on hill .lights were blinking from distant villages in that dark hill. You know it's really cool to watch those right?.

Train passed through Aryankavu, Thenmalai,Bagavathipuram, Very Big British Period Stone Bridge(in this bridge only, most scenes in the song " Vandi Vandi Rayulu Vandi" from Jeyam tamil film, have been shot, you can easily spot this bridge in that song and can imagine beauty of this hill) then finally reached SENGOTTAI(our Great tamil nadu) at 8. 30 pm .Sengottai is on border to kerala, near to tenkasi, kutralam(So many waterfalls). I always crazy about the beauty of western Ghats.

From Sengottai railway station all other passengers caught bus or share autos to bus stand, as it is 1.5 kms. but as i liked to explore i walked through . Had light dinner at a small hotel for just Rs.20.

Prepared to return to Chennai, Enquired about Direct chennai Buses, heard it is too late, time was around 9 p.m., then caught bus to Tenkasi, 20 minutess travel. From tenkasi caught Madurai Bus. Travel through Rajapalayam(newly constructed big bus stand),Srivilliputhur(famous for Aaandal Temple and paalkova(milk kova)),Thirumangalam. travel time 3 hrs..

Reached Madurai Maatuthavani bus stand @ 12.30 am. Had nice Coffee. For my surprise there were lot of ULTRA Deluxe buses of State Express Transport Corporation(SETC) of Tamil Nadu to Chennai, Chosen 1 among those. Bus started around 1 am.

As my eyes were burning, i fallen asleep immediately. when i woke up again, bus was in Trichy @ 4.30 am,still in asleep.. Reached chennai around 11. 30 am.
