Blue mountains & the Strobilanthus shrub
Any idea for the about the best place in Ooty to see Neelakurinji (Strobilanthus shrub) that has blossomed recently. Thinking of making a photography trip
![]() Anybody visited any of these areas in Ooty recently??? Which are the best locations.... For the those who are wondering what this Neelakurinji (Strobilanthus shrub)is..It's a plant that blosoms in once in every 12 years. The flower is blue and the whole hills look blue when it blooms, and hence the name Blue Mountain.

We have a Blue Mountains here west of Sydney, which you can see from the west side of my house.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Mo...28Australia%29 When I went there for an excursion as a kid, they told me it was called the Blue Mountains basically because of the same reason as its counterpart in Ooty. The reason why they call it the Blue Mountains here, is because every morning a plant blossoms and releases this thick aroma, scent, and which can be seen from a distant, and gives it that Blue look.
