Bastille day in Pondicherry?

I'm in Tamil Nadu this July, and since it's Bastille day in Pondicherry on 14th I thought I might join in the festivities.

Has anyone ever been to Pondy on Bastille day? I'm very curious about what 'French pomp and ceremony' (to quote Lonely Planet) is like India-style!

Is anyone else planning to be there this July 14th? Could be fun

since there weren't any takers for this one first time around, i thought i might resurrect it - since it's a bit closer to the time and there may be some podicherryans out there with some firsthand experiences...

i'm setting off on a 2-week trip to tamil nadu in a week or so, and am tying to figure out if it would be worth re-jigging my itinerary to be in pondi for bastille day... what do you guys think?

oh well, since no one seems to know about this one, i figured i'd answer my own question... for posterity.

we did make it to pondy for bastille day and i've gotta say there wasn't much of anything going on. when we enquired at the tourist office, we were met with looks of

... and the only people who seemed even vaguely aware of the fact that it wasn't just any old saturday were the french tourists.

having said this, we found out at a later stage that there had been some kind of parade along the waterfront at 8am and that the french consulate were holding a private function in the afternoon.
