Do you mean going from Bangalore to Pondy, touring around, and returning to Bangalore the same day? Impossible. Way too rushed. It'll take you most of a day just to get from Bangalore to Pondy.

The Government of Pondicherry (office on the waterfront not far from the Gandhi statue) has full-day and half-day tours.

Google "pondicherry tours" for lots of private tour operators.

thanks jean. Here's my planned schedule.Take a overnite bus from bangalore , reach Pondy in the morning ,freshen up in a hotel, take a sightseeing tour of Pondy , take a overnite bus and reach bangalore next day morning. The tour operator should arrange the hotel room for freshening up and the sightseeing tour , i.e it should come with the ticket.

Well, maybe, if your schedule is really tight. You might not get much sleep on the overnight bus, so you may be pretty bedraggled by the time you get back to Bangalore. My recommendation would be to spend one night in Pondy, either before or after your tour.

You might try http://ajourneytoindia.com/india-tou...a-tourism.html
I'm not recommending them; just saw their webpage somewhere.
