Alcohol abuse in Pondicherry

Hi,

I was thinking of spending a weekend in Pondicherry, but I recently heard Pondicherry is not overly pleasant at weekends as it gets swamped by binge drinking youths from Chennai. Are these reports exaggerated or not?

The first part is true.

Yes, it gets swamped. But where it gets swamped is the question. Not all the PUBS and BARs are swamped. Very few ones are like that.

Otherwise Pondy is peaceful.

If you ask me, I will say. Yes the reports are exaggerated.

Many of the drinkers go no further than East-Coast-Road resorts too, which is just an evening out, rather than a weekend away. For a few, the drive back is the last of their lives

Pondy is quite good.Yes youth go there for binging .but you wont bump into a drunken guy every other person.Its just like other city(Union Territory i should say).
