7-9 day tour through Tamil Nadu

Hi all,

I have a friend who wants to do a guided tour through Tamil Nadu with her mother for 7-9 days (max).

It's been a few years since I've been in this area and I don't go on guided tours myself, so I have no idea what companies are reputable and value for money.

Is there anyone who can recommend a company to look at who can offer a no-brainer (ie. you don't have to think of anything - just follow the guide) ?

The following are important:
1) airport collection
2) all hotels & meals organised
3) some good locations /sights being shown
4) price is not too restrictive (budget for 2-3 star hotels).
5) time of year early August 2008.

The ladies are not capable of getting a taxi driver to take them from A=>B=>C (etc); hence the "no-brainer" requirement.

Cheers
Zoltan

Have a look at the guided tours offered by Tamil Nadu tourism dept. tamilnadutourism.org Check the TTDC section there. They are usually excellent VFM . Accommodation is clean but basic, at TTDC's Hotel Tamil Nadu chain of hotels.

Hi Zoltan,

(Mods, please let me know if the following is not in accordance with the non-commercial rules.)

I'm a Canadian expat, retired, living near Chennai for the past five years. As a hobby, I offer personalized orientation and introduction tours of south India for Western visitors. In the last few years, I have escorted several friends and friends-of-friends around Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Goa. I don't charge any fee for doing this; I just ask that they cover the costs of travel, accommodation and food. If you like, I can put you in contact with some of my satisfied visitors. I'd be pleased to help your friend and her mother plan their tour and act as their guide and escort.

In seven to nine days, they are not going to be able to see very much. I'd probably suggest a couple of days each in Mamallapuram, Auroville and Pondy, plus one or two other places at most.

(Nick-H knows me and can vouch for my bona fides.)
