48 Hours In Coimbatore Any Suggestions?

Ok, got 2 of those dirt cheap air tickets landing in Coimbatore this weekend and have nothing planned or any idea what to do there or around there.

Could take the simple option and head for Coonor or Ooty but been to both of those so if there is anything else worth heading for then please do tell!

Cheers
Malc

Coimbatore is the "Manchester of India" as far as manufacturing goes.

The posh hotel is The Residency:

I have also stayed at the Sri Annapoorna - great for vegetarian food, but the rooms are overpriced and tatty. (See my listing in India Mike's Hotels section).

As well as engineering, manufacturing, textiles and medicals, Coimbatore produces a lot of ethnic pottery, "keep away the evil demon masks", etc. You'll find them at the side of the road as you head towards Mettupalyam.

Coimbatore is said to be a good place for textile shopping and handloom products.

Apart from that, there is always the simple option of Coonoor or Ooty!

How about Kodai ?

You could go to Kodai, its about 180 km thru Palani. If you want to stay around coimbatore there are couple of temples that you could visit do shopping or just go around the town. I think there is also theme park near Mettupalayam if you are interested.
