Where to watch college football in India
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but...We will in either Jaisalmer, Johdpur or Goa on Jan. 5th looking for a place to watch the Rose Bowl. Does anyone know of a place where we might be able to watch it? It should be on at 7AM.

I do not believe the Rose Bowl is carried live in India due to the lack of interest for American football in India.

Best solution is to get a TiVo or contact a friend who has one.
I feel your pain, tsarina_stacey of Austin, TX. I missed the Gators 1996 championship when I was in India. I had to wait until the game was available for sale on video cassette in order to see it. How did we live before TiVo? |

Try insider.espn.go.com. You can get real time updates during the game. Not the same as watching it, but it beats having to wait till the next day to get the score. And speaking of beating, BEAT THE HELL OUT OF USC!

College Football DVDs
Check out < pontel@pontel.com > to purchase American college football games on 4-hour DVDs. The cost per game is US $15.90 ANYWHERES in Asia or Africa. The price includes airmail postage. Pontel's prices vary for other continents.
In the 1990's in Kathmandu, Nepal I would receive videotapes from Pontel approximately 9 days after the football game was played. I also purchased baseball videotapes from Pontel. Since 2003 only DVDs are available from Pontel. On occasion I would have three videotapes of games that would be played on the same date with the same starting time. That would necessitate my watching them one quarter at a time so that the out of town scoreboard would not give away the results of the other games. I did not find out about the result of the 1984 Oakland vs Washington Super Bowl for more than a month afterwards because I was meandering equatorwards on the West Coast of India. I survived just fine. When not in Asia I have been to 12 Rose Bowl games in person. I plan to attend the 1/4/2006 Texas vs USC game. As a UCLA fan I will be rooting for the Pac-10. I cheer for the Trojans when they play non-conference opponents. During USC's current 34-game winning streak I have been to 8 of their games. |

At the end of the 2002 Rose Bowl game (Miami 37, Nebraska 14) I was walking down the steps on Aisle 5 (the 35 yard line) and who do I see in front of me but none other than Barry Alvarez (the retiring 2005 Wisconsin Badgers football coach and a Nebraska alumnus). I shook hands with Coach Alvarez and wished him good luck for Wisconsin to play in the next Rose Bowl (they did not). I added that he sure had UCLA's number. Barry's Badgers beat UCLA twice in the Rose Bowl and once in the Sun Bowl. May Alvarez go out with a win against Auburn in Wisconsin's bowl game!

Yeah Barry is a great guy. I know him personally and am a good friends with his oldest kid. Barry is very Humble man and loves the game. He is very well respected here in WI.
And I know the games yetijuice is talking about. It was great watching them beat UCLA in rosebowl. I was even there personally, I think either 98 or 99. Not sure. |

pontel@pontel.com
Nobody else here at IndiaMike has purchased DVDs from Pontel? I was hoping for some feedback on how many days it took to receive them in India. One of these years when I am back in Kulu Valley I will have Pontel send some sports DVDs to me.
