Hi everyone,
Last time I was in India my son turned eight. For his birthday we had a fireworks night on the beach. He still remembers it as one of the best nights of his life. I remember it because it was totally nerve-wracking. Some of those fuses are short! Anyway, we had a great time, and we had another legendary day blowing up coconuts a week later. It is safe to say that he and I are both confirmed pyromaniacs, and since we are frustrated living in the nanny state of Australia where fireworks are prohibited, we are really looking forward to getting back there and blowing up some more coconuts and sand castles (he is 11 now and I am old enough to know better). So, to my question, does anybody know of any particularly good places to buy fireworks in the South, or any particulary impressive types of fireworks that might be available? Mod Note: I have moved this thread to the Sports Forum. Last edited by theyyamdancer : Sep 10th, 2009 at 12:46. |

Fireworks will be easily available in all markets in this season, the important thing is the quality. I have had my not so thrilling experiences like the one that was supposed to go up blew in my face and all that I could see for weeks was sparkles and hear..well...something for sure far far away. I cannot be certain as it has been a long time since I have given up on fireworks, but ‘cock’ brand seemed to be the best without any quality issues.

Sivakasi in Tamilnadu is the place where India's fireworks industry is centred.

Cock brand is superior, I have tried them all
There are literally hundreds of firework companies in India. I've tried most of them, and without hesitation I recomend COCK brand over all others.
They are reliable, have sufficient fuse timing, and 98% functioning rate. I've been close to having lost a finger from some of the cheap shitty off brands. The main issue is the fuse burns at light speed, and it goes off in your hand. Always wear a thick camel leather glove when handling any brand. Most fun are the explosives , the HYDRO BOMB and the ATOM BOMB. They come in a few sizes, and have super amazing power. I've don't recomend holding them in your hand. Get a long lighter, and run like hell. Himalayan Voyager |

Make sure you don't surprise any innocent walkers by... I've got life long tinnitus in one ear from a 'fun' time firecracker that some sweet daddy let off to amuse his little kid in Dharamsala. Yeah really cool!!!
There's a good reason why "nanny" country Australia has banned them. |

delhiwala is right about Sivakasi. However, due to its location, most of the manufacturers have their main shops set up in a city called MADURAI, not far from Sivakasi.
Anytime of the year, you could go to MADURAI and get all sorts of fireworks. Sivakasi is good, but you end up buying without receipts or proper packaging. I'll strongly recommend MADURAI as the place to buy. |

We loose entire firework shops, cracker factories, etc, in explosions, on a fairly regular basis.
Take precautions, and then take ten more. Himalayan is obviously experienced --- take his advice seriously. |
