where is a good place to buy cricket equipment in India?
where is a good place to buy cricket equipment in India?
Cheap prices but quality equipment that I might find in the UK, Albion, etc. Any decent Indian cricket bat brands that I could try? |

Don't buy Kashmir williow, and stick to English, which you may or may not know. Kashmir willow is more dense and tends to break/crack more often than English.
Which city and what is your price range? |

I presume it will be at least half the price of UK bats, balls, helmets?
I have my own equipment so this is for some generic club stuff. Maybe a fairly decent long handled bat and 1 short handled. Quite a few decent balls able to last 40+ overs and get a good shine no. Some Albion titanium helmets. I am travelling throughout India so anywhere in Delhi on my return or on the way now (Rajasthan, Mumbai, Kerala, south, Chennai). I haven't come across any in the street yet. For a club bat, I don't think Kashmir will be too much of an issue if oiled and looked after. Kashir is darker I think and the grades can be told by how closely the lines are withing the material. |

In New Delhi, there is a decent, old dusty looking sports store in the inner circle of Connaught Place which sells lots of cricket gear. I bought an MRF Genius for half price compared to here in Australia. Sorry I can't remember the name. But they have cricket balls, white and red, match balls for like AU$10 compared to here, where you get it for $40-50.

I suggest that you find a reputable store as India is full of counterfeit sports equipment. As to English v. Kashmir willow? How does one confirm which the tree the wood came from? Again, you'll have to find some one you can trust. In my experience english willow retails for about Rs4,000 and more. I've seen no-name English willow bats for less on ebay, that have gotten great reviews from customers. Here is an example:

You can just tell when you lift it, way it feels, density. Kind of like telling the difference between a riesling and a sauvignon blanc. Clueless at first but once you taste it a few times, you should know the difference. Don't get me wrong, there are excellent quality Kashmir, but it is pretty rare, compared to English.

For Cricket Stuff just go to any Sports Shop in India... Cricket is like Blood in which runs in the vains of this country so you can get anything related to cricket from any sports shop... quality of things would depend on the price...

Hi,
I bought a couple of bats last time from my homecity i.e. chandigarh, One of those bats being the SS brand which people quite like in India. I have to say that I am not much impressed by any of those two bats, but I guess I did not get to the right place. Also be aware that some of the shops sell second grade bats that means the bat would have a minor fault which would be visible to you easily if you spend couple of minutes inspecting the bats, these bats have been rejected to be exported and are of much lower value in comparison to original value, but the seller normally charges the original value and would never tell you that there is a minor fault, the bats would be sold as if they are totally fine and at the normal prices. Jalandhar is the most famous place in India to buy cricket bats. But no doubt, as New-south-welshman mentioned Delhi would definately have some good stuff. Do you remember the name of the shop New-south-welshman. How much did you pay for the MRF bat and what was the quality like? Quote:
