Basketball, so no vote. Suits my height. For football, my eyes are too far above my feet to make things coordinate. In high school (late fifties), I liked handball, but nowadays, those games look more like wrestling matches.

I have been to a cricket field very few times. I didn't understand if there was an exciting game going on, or if they were warming up before the start of it.

I agree. I am sure it is lots of fun to play, but to watch, it is like "watching people playing golf" for me.

I prefer both American football and soccer over cricket.

I'll change the title so people know we are talking about proper football (as in FIFA, world, association or "soccer" for short, football).

Actually there is no need, you know what Terry means, you Americans and Aussies are just trying it on!

When someone decides to host the World Cup in American Football or Aussie Rules I will get interested. Until then enjoy your unknown weird provincial games guys!

As for cricket, well I must say I am excited as I just got my Adelaide Test tickets yesterday for the second Ashes test. Come on ENGERLAND!!!!!

I still voted for footy though.

Well, in eastern Australia, rugby league is known as football. The people who call soccer, football, in the east, are either tourists from 'football' nations or ex-pat Brits. Aussies who call soccer, football, are seen as very pretentious people. Well, that's how it's like in Australia's biggest city, Sydney.

I'm probably going to be slated by 'real' cricket fans for saying this but Twenty20 is just awesome to watch.
More of it should be played at international level.
I love tests and one-day games but prefer to watch Twenty20... it's thrilling stuff and the atmosphere is great. Even people who don't have a clue about cricket would enjoy it.

I'm a huge cricket fan, and I love all forms of cricket. 20/20 is an amazing. It's just test cricket on cocaine. I can't wait for Aussies to play India in a 20/20.

The best thing is that the "Socceroos" did so well as a team in the World Cup that football has now been confirmed as the number one truly international team sport in Australia. Even as fan of the lately lacklustre England team I have to say that I was proud of Australia's efforts in Germany 2006.

Well, just like everytime there is a World Cup, the media and people hop on the bandwagon. The thing with soccer, it's the biggest sport in Australia in under-15 participation. I think it's safe to say it's the most played sport in every country in the world. Spectator wise (in OZ), it's not really good. People will go to the A-League expecting to see some excitement just like the World Cup, but will be unpleasantly surprised. Even I've been to a few A-League games but I stick to my "Aussie" sports of cricket and both rugby codes.

Again you are probably right in that the A Leagueis not at the same standard quite yet in terms of the skill level and fitness and therefore the entertainment value as it is in the rest of the world.

I don't agree with your point about the media, that is just an Australian perspective. The Socceroos were awesome in Germany and will go from strength to strength I believe.

There is a chance that Austrlia can one day win the World Cup just like there is a chance that England will retain the Ashes (....I don't think! We (England) are gonnae get whooped this winter I fear!)

........

Right we are probably digressing so we should let Terry M get on with his poll.

My mate took a week off work because he was so distraught over the Aussies losing to Italy. I told him "Oi listen, there will always be 2010!" And he goes "Nah mate, this was the time, all the players will be retiring and our defense won't be the same anymore" He is a soccer nut, and even got all the scores right for all the Aussie games. He said the Aussies probably won't even make the next World Cup. But who knows, good on them for getting so far. As for the Ashes, England are no hopers. They fluke a sporting event and thats it. 2003 Rugby WC, 1966 Soccer WC, 2005 Ashes.
