Twenty20 World Championship 2007

I just saw India beating Pakistan in that thrilling bowl-out game. How were the reactions to this win in India like, or Twenty20 in general?

My elderly father was ecstatic; reactions here will be mixed since Dravid (I know, not connected with this game) resigned yesterday. But people will be thrilled, I am sure.

I stopped watching cricket seriously years ago, after members of cricket teams in the top half dozen playing countries were either proved involved, or strongly impicated in match fixing. And I didnt watch yesterday's match either.

20-20

India Pak match is always exciting in any form of the game and if India wins especially in this manner then its icing on the cake.
However I found 20-20 brutal....one gets the feeling that you are watching slog overs....there is no grace in it. And bowlers will be needing Therapy after this tournament..

I seriously felt twenty20 was a disaster..there was simply no fund in it..it was all about batsmen smashing bowlers all around the park...got to monotonous no thrills at all...

But Y'day was a different day and it changed it all...the match was a nail-biting as they come..

To get a good game you need to have some juice in wicket..you need to have support for bowlers as the format itself is heavily in favor of batsmen...the pitches should be bowler friendly and then we will have good contest..

Conditions for Bowlers VS Format for Batsmen

This is not a game...it is a joke.........no techiniques......only blasting blindly.......I never see it.

No good player will ever come up with this form of the game.......and moreover,.......existing good techinical and stylish players will be lost in this black hole of cricket.

...with 20-20, I would say.....cricket is dying....and some worthless dumby's are making money with it.

It was a nail-biting finish and I, felt that the match should have ended after the tie. Anyway, the people are loving it and the victory was not top news because of Shock news of Dravid's resignation.

My thought exactly...Even though I was not even born at that time..but this is human tendency...our mind resists change and every new thing is critisied...

Its too young...I said earlier that even i beleived that cricket was lost..but yesterdays match was different..I hope that organizers would learn from it and would prepare bowler freindly wickets...

I think in India, the audience is there, however I think Cricket need to grow its audience worldwide.
look at what is happening to west indies cricket,
This world2020 is doing the right thing, creating fun, cheaper tickets, inviting school kids for free and so on.
I for one have enjoyed all the matches so far, and missed the match between india v pakistan, and killing my self, any one posted on you tube yet?
I think like soccer in USA, this form of cricket could encourage more women to play.
Come on Sri Lanka

Talk about synchronicity - a Lankan fan on the pre-game show today between SL and NZ (I only watched becos some funnymen were on) said Mahela bats like a girl.....

Maybe that's the way to popularise it among women..

20-20...

Well, take away the overs 11-40 overs from a 50 over ODI,what you are left with is the slog-period,which is T20.
Suprisingly, every T20 match in this tourney has seen someone doing really well in his 4 overs of bowling. And the curators arent making the pitches as batting-friendly as they would have for a 50-over game.Logically, any team will last the 20 overs. This makes this version a leveller, with something in it for the bowlers too.
Commercially, this doesnt seem as lucrative as a 50 over game, which has something like 100-over-transition ad-slots + the wicket-falling ad slots + the bigger tea/lunch breaks.
But the lost money can be made up if 1 ground hosts something 2/3 games in a day, with with 2 seat turnovers(this has not happened in this tournament-might happen in a single venue tournament).
Overall, this version is all about instant gratification, and with lots more opportunities for the less-fancied teams..

True cricketing skills = Test cricket
