Tennis -Clay court season.

Roger Federer is being challenged after a long time. His nemesis is the wily Argentine , Canas . Expect Canas to be thorn in Federer's side in his least favorite surface. Federer, Imho, does not need to win the french open to cement his place as the goat in Tennis. But, it sure would be nice to add this trophy in his cabinet and beat the argument on who is the goat, he or Pete sampras.

Nadal is also resurgent after coming out from a slump .I don't think federer will win this time. Maybe Nadal or Canas if they can keep their good form over the fortnight of grueling tennis.

Suprisingly Canas' best results to date have been on hard courts. Maybe because he's an Argentine you naturally assume his best service to be clay ..... but that's not necessarily the case with this hombre ..... gotta see what happens in Monte Carlo & Roma before I go out on a limb for a terre-battue prediction!

I did watch Canas play in rolland garros and he has a game suited for Clay. It is a surprise that he gets better results in Hard-courts. The same can be said about Nalbandian too. Canas can hit more winners than Coria and now that Coria's game is on the wane, i expect Canas to be the top argentine player for a few more years to come. Nalabandian's best chance at glory would be at Aussie open or Us. I actually thought this was going to be Gonzalez's year and we have heard little from him after the Aussie open.

Gonzo was "in the zone" in Oz. Really wonder (and if he does too), if he could/can play any better than he did rednUnwoD ..... and he still got toasted in the final! Time will tell but he has still got alot to prove in the consistency department to be the heir apparent to the tennis throne in my books.

I think Fedex is indeed challanged this time. One of the biggest reason is that some of the fellow players have started believing that he is beatable after Nadal show last year and Canas' recent exploits. That aura of invincibility may be...just may be deserting Federer now. Anyways, its too early to say something like that.

Nadal was beaten comprehensively after the Frech open final ,Which maybe one of the reasons he was in a slump for some time. Need to wait and watch to see if Canas also feels the wrath of Federer.

Don't miss a very nice little Dirt-ball-Dust-up tomorrow(Sunday) in the Monte-Carlo Final. Although I'm told the Final has been reduced to best of 3 (from best of 5 in previous years) this year ..... still any time Federer & Nadal to battle ..... it's worth a watch!

I would prefer the Finals of the Masters series to be five set match. It is always better , on clay, if it is a good old slug-fest. It is such an interesting contrast of styles. The spanish Bull against the swiss master. The swiss master may think it is time to make a statement and He is my pick to win the match against Nadal. A Federer win will make it all the more interesting.

Fedex failed to deliver in Monte Carlo. Rafa kicked that red dirt right in his face and taught him ...... yet another lesson on clay!

I will bet on Nadal. And it is good to see Fedex loose sometimes, just for variety.

Canas is no Match to the awesome Nadal. He is the Hot-shot fav to win the French Open. Need to see his Performance in other grand slams before grouping him in the same Bracket as Bruegera and Kuerten. CLay court specialists and also -rans in every other surface.

Nadal did reach the Final in Wimbledon.

Just THIS minute . . .

. . . saw something on Yahoo! News that Federer and Nadal will be playing on a half-grass, half-clay surface . . . maybe that's what this posting is in regards to, don't know . . . curious idea . . . half-grass/half-clay . . . is that astro-clay or astro-turf?

I think it's going to be a specially constructed court that is grass surface on one side and red clay on the other. It sounds interesting .... but I would think that they both will have to undergo tennis shoe changes at each change over .... because the different surfaces require different treads to slide/move properly.
