soccer world cup on tv?

We would like to watch all the matches of the fifa soccer world cup this summer. Does anyone know if this is possible? Probably, we will stay in an appartment in Goa at that time. Do we need cable TV or satellite? Any special contract necessary? Any bars where matches will be shown?

Thanks,

ESPN STAR have been showing a lot of promos for the World Cup for the past couple of weeks..I assume that they will be telecasting the WC games live. You would need cable to watch these games.

There are sure to be plenty of bars showing it even though its off season but even if not, most places will put it on for you if they know you're gonna stay and drink there. I was here in 04 when the Euro Cup was on and this seemed to be shared between ESPN and Star Sports which is the same franchise anyhow so its doubtful you'll miss a thing. I don't think there is any terristial tv in Goa so if you are staying somewhere with your own television then it should have all those channels available, albeit you may need to tune them in yourself!

Take your pick, it will be harder to find a bar not showing it I would think. Virtually all the 3, 4 and 5 star hotels will have it on in one of their bars, Guzzlers if it opens again, most of the other little pubs in and around the Brigade Road area and no doubt a few restaurants and nightclubs as well!

You'll find no end of drink promotions, just check the papers and the little city info guide nearer the time!

Cheers

actually i have just had another thought, with the ridiculous closing hours in bangalore these days then it may not be possible to watch a game that starts in the UK at say 8pm in the evening so you'll have to do that at home or watch replays the next day!

Cheers

It's cable TV in Goa and you should be able to see all the matches on ESPN and Star Sports(Sky). There will be places open or get an apt with TV.

I am also anxiously awaiting the World Cup and trying to figure out how I'll be able to catch all the games in Chennai. I hope that ESPN/Star Sports will show every game -- preempting the cricket and hockey matches that seem to be on every hour of the day -- but I would sure rest easier if I knew for sure.

For the crucial time slots when games are being played concurrently at the end of the group stage, I wonder how they'll choose which to show.

Regardless, I'm actually happy to be in India where the timings will allow late-night viewing. Back in the US, I'd have to miss them or miss work.
