Salt Lake Stadium

I will be visiting Kolkata oct/nov and would love to visit this stadium. Do they do specific tours or would i just have to go when a football is on?

This stadium is right opposite to my home... no tours you can go for a walk when ever you want.

Are you interested in the architecture or the football? Or both?

I went to see a game a few years back, and the place is massive and quite run down (unless it has been renovated since). I think there might've been a crowd of around 10,000, which made it feel almost empty...

jyotirmoy, do you go to the matches?

I am interesetd in football - it's the second largest football ground in the world, so it would be a shame not to see it. hopefully there will be a game on when i'm there.

I saw East Bengal and afterwards wandered around the city looking for their official shirt... which I finally found in a tiny sports store. The Kingfisher logo made it all the more classy! And they had Bhutia, the first Indian to play in England (Bury).

Apparently the national league is now called the I-League, but in addition to that, there are local leagues. You might want to check http://www.indianfootball.com/ for more info...
