No IPL in India

Folks, this is hot off the press.

BCCI has announced that this year's edition of IPL will be held outside India. No decision has been made on the host country, but BCCI is in touch with the England and South African cricket boards.

Personally, I think this is not a healthy step and may set a precedent. Although I hasten to add that the decision is influenced more by the elections being held this year and the fact that they can't put any more strain on the already overstretched security forces rather than India being perceived as an extension of Afghanistan & Pakistan.

Sad it is all the same for every cricket fan.

Ipl

It's the Osama effect....

The gruesome attack on Srilankan team in Pak, has made security establishment in India jittery...

Election is just an excuse....

I was really looking forward to going to the IPL matches. I went to two last year and had a fantastic time - especially catching glimpses of SRK in Kolkata.

Do you think the games will be well-attended in the UK or S Africa?

It's sad, even I was looking forward to see a Mumbai Indians match at CCI.

I guess I am optimistic that this "final" decision will not be so final. The location issue has see-sawed so much over the past month or so that I can't see it ending here (at least, I hope I am right!) I have a feeling negotiations will continue behind closed doors and hopefully something will be worked out last minute.

Who knows... maybe this is all part of Congress' election strategy! Sweep in and save the day at the last minute ;-)

Either gonna be played in SA or England. SA is favourite to host it. It's gonna be a bit surreal.

Now how much money would they lose from ticket sales!

What's the deal with match times? Do they coincide with Indian prime time or what?

They were comparing average rainfall in Mumbai, Natal and Manchester on the UK news bulletins last night.

(I think we know where that was going)

Soooo.. Its South Africa, it has been confirmed. A little disappointed not being in England, it would have been great to have London meet up at one of these games. It's a sad day for Indian cricket, but I guess at time of General Election, it would have been very hard to guarantee security.

whether its good / bad / ugly that IPL is being held outside india... time will tell.
so south africa it is.
lets get on with it -

manager, john buchanan has suggested a total of 5 captains at a time for the kolkata knight riders!
no fixed captain as of now - he says
will it / wont it / will it / wont it work
bet shane warne is laughing himself hoarse

I think we can safely say Buchanan has egg on his face. His team's season has ended even before the tournament got to its half way mark. McCullum can't wait to resign and there are no obvious leaders waiting in the ranks.

SRK is mad to have put his total faith into Buchanan. I totally agree with Gavaskar when he lambasted Buchanan and accused him of milking the Knigh Riders by empoying his army of support staff for exorbitant sums of money.

I don't think Ganguly will play past the next season, but it may not be too late for SRK to sack Buchanan and mend his relationship with Ganguly for the sake of the next season.

I wouldn't blame Ganguly if he refused to take over as the captain once again, if anything that would be a just response to SRK's humiliating ways of running the affairs at the Knight Riders.
