Way to go India - glad to hear you past your test!!!!!!!

<walks away still not knowing for sure exactly what a 'test' is - used in the sports vernacular >

from wikipedia:

The name "Test" is thought to arise from the idea that the matches are a "test of strength and competency" between the sides involved. It seems to have been used first to describe an English team that toured Australia in 1861-62, although those matches are not considered Test matches today.

Thanks Kidsan - you might know another Anglo-Aussieism - although whenever I hear 'it' - still can't help but picture the two teams sitting down in opposing rows of desks - glaring at each other - with their pencils & erasers working furiously.

Am I allowed to say I'm glad India won? Or would that be unAustralian?

Yeh I feel a bit unAustralian too. I am glad India won - they deserved it in spite of all the crap they went through in Sydney.

Yeah the Aussie team has left quite a bitter taste in my mouth. I just think it's the current players and from the past 20 years of so. Hopefully the next generation won't be dickheads like the current team.

sledging

New South Welshman Steve Waugh

here are some of the more famous sledges, from back in those days when it was for the ears of the 'pitch' only
i have deleted the more colourful ones

Glenn McGrath & Eddo Brandes
McGrath was bowling to the Zimbabwe number 11 - who was unable to get his bat anywhere near the ball. McGrath, frustrated that Brandes was still at the crease, wandered up during one particular over and inquired:
"Why are you so fat?"
Quick as a flash, Brandes replied:
"Because every time I make love to your wife, she gives me a biscuit."
Even the Aussie slip fielders were in hysterics.

This involves Steve Waugh and Parthiv Patel.....Steve Waugh...
Last Test...comes up to bat...
Parthiv: "So this is your last test...show us some of that famous sledging of yours."
Stev: "Respect Me...For when I made my test debut you were still in your nappies"

Fred Trueman bowling. The batsman edges and the ball goes to first slip, and right between Raman Subba Row's legs. Fred doesn't say a word.
At the end of the over, Row ambles past Trueman and apologises sheepishly. "I should've kept my legs together, Fred".
The reply is classic Trueman, "Not you, son. Your mother should've!"

Ravi Shastri v/s the aussie 12th man (don't remember who)
Shastri hits it to this guy and looks for a single... this guy gets the ball in and says "if you leave the crease i'll break your f***ing head"
Shastri: "if you could bat as well as you can talk you wouldn't be the f***ing 12th man"

Jimmy Ormond comes out to bat against the Aussies in the winter tour in 2002/03.
Mark Waugh says "Oh look who it is. You're not an international cricketer, mate, so what the hell are you doing here?"
To which Ormond replies "I may not be the best cricketer in the
world, but at least I'm the best in my family."

Rod Marsh (wicket-keeper) on greeting an arriving Ian Botham
to the crease: "Ian, how is your wife and my kids?"

Australian Merv Hughes to Englishman Robin Smith:
"Does your husband play cricket as well?"

Sledging is a part of cricket. WG Grace did it. Once given out leg-before, he refused to walk and told the bowler:
"They came to watch me bat, not you bowl". And the innings continued.
