Looking for a game of football in New Delhi- any takers?

I’m an American who moved to New Delhi a month ago and have been desperately searching for any opportunity to play football (soccer). I have asked all the locals around where I live (Defense Colony) and at work and no one knows of any pick-up games. I work in the afternoon and evening during the week, but would love to join a team or simply play a pickup game in the mornings or on the weekend. I am also interested in playing all other sports if anyone knows where there is a game I get in on.

Even if you don’t know of an existing game but would be interested in playing, let me know and maybe we can set up a regular pick up game.

Many thanks,

Danny

Dear me, I had no idea it was so easy to get onto a professional football team. Plus of course, anyone playing professionally would qualify for an employment visa! *ponders* Do they take women?

Danny, welcome to the site, and good luck finding some fellow players. Just a thought, could you teach some of the local kids? All you need is a ball and jumpers for goalposts. Okay, scratch that cliche, I doubt nobody in Delhi is wearing jumpers right now!

There is a game at the US embassy on Thursday nights that is pretty good (you do not have to be American, you just have to know someone who can put you on the list). Other then that, I have not found any one playing soccer on a regular basis. I have been told that it is because it is so damn hot right now and once it cools down a little, I should have more luck.

Hi,

I used to play Soccer 2 years back, at ground opposite IIT delhi. I am sure guys still plays there these days as well. Also try to go the Tyagraj Stadium beside JOR bagh (behind KIDWAI NAGAR, DDA office -near railway track) local people know the stadium. You will find many teams playing there in mornings and evening. Tyr out to get patched up in some group or team.
Another option is to go to Ambedkar staduim on weekends.. try to meet there the soccer fans of Delhi.

Cheers!! bye

I stay in Def Col as well , but i guess 2 would not amount to much of a game..

Which parks have you tried?

There is one in A block called the JCO club , they have a biggish ground there where i have seen some soccer being played...you can take a peek there...
