Kite Surfing in India?

Hello!

Has anyone heard of or taken part in Kite surfing in India, maybe you might have seen it around Goa or Kerala?

Thanks!

hi,

I have seen people kite surfing this Jan in on Morjim beach N.Goa and also on a few other beachers further up. I know nothing about kite surfing but the conditions appeared good i.e lots of wind and the guy was going far out. But he was on his own and God knows what would happen if he got into trouble as there are no life guards on these beaches or power boats to collect you if you mess up!

The guy brought all his own kit out there I assume.....as I have never seen people renting stuff out in Goa

There are a few people who do kite surfing in Asvem and Mandrem but you have to bring your own gear. Another point to keep in mind is that there are no facilities for rescue.

Right, I saw a guy also last yr. in Goa doing the kite surfing thing. Then next day he was with the hang-glider(motor-less). There are no facilities for rescue as told by others. So be careful

Just remembered that you may be able to hire the equipment for kite surfing in Sinquerim next to the Taj hotel. The rates are quite high though.

just for emphasis THERE ARE NO RESCUE SERVICES IN INDIA. for that reason, most of the locals don;t even go swimming in the sea.

Hey Ruthie,
I assume you are already a kiter?

If not, I would get comfortable with kiting a bit preferably with the help of someone who is experienced. (at home, maybe?) Then, when you have an idea of your ability, comfort, etc in different conditions, and you know what size kites are appropriate for your exerience and body weight for the typical conditions in Goa, bring the gear you need, teach your travel mate to help you launch and land your kite ...and have fun.

I know that there are kiters in Ireland, I've met a few who have travelled here to kite...but i bet the water there is soooooo cold!
