All good things must end at some time or the other – nothing is permanent. Especially, for those who become celebrities like the master batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Once upon a time he was revered for his mastery over the game. He stroked all around the wickets with authority and played havoc with the opposition bowlers - he is today a spent force. His admirers continue to hope for a miraculous comeback, that he will rise from the ashes like the Phoenix and prove his critics wrong. But, the actuals paint a different picture. Admitted that he is ensnared in the trap of the dream merchants, agreed that he has accumulated wealth far above his expectations, agreed that he has etched his name in the annals of history several times over, but the fact remains that his continued inclusion in the team creates avoidable uneasiness among his fellow players. He cannot be ignored, and once included, expectations run high. Unfortunately, his continued inability to return to his previous form spells trouble for those who follow him into the 22 yards strip. The opposition exults when he returns to the pavilion, crestfallen, a ghost of his jovial personality. The scene lingers for long and acts as adrenal in the veins of the opposition. They delight in their triumph and express their joy in no uncertain terms. Yes, players do have bad patches, they do fall victims to injuries but, when evidence of revival appears too dim for comfort, the player needs to talk to himself and take a decision in the interest of the game. That will help him to rise in stature in the eyes of his admirers.

There was a time when a popular cold drink ad showed Sachin Tendulkar peeping at you from behind every face – today, spectators boo him as he slowly retraces his steps after too brief an appearance at the crease. Age takes its toll on every individual, his reflexes become sluggish and, his performance takes a beating. At such times, he should make his last bow and withdraw gracefully so that he can dwell on his glorious moments, and not be haunted by visions of being forced to kneel down.

Certainly age is showing its effect on his performance; he is not as flamboyant as he used to be; reflexes may not be as sharp as everybody is expecting. But, he still plays with the same authority; not hitting over the head of the bowler, but slowly and steadily building his innings.

Can you give me the name of one single ODI/Test series in the last few years that Team India has won without significant contribution from him; (there might be exceptions, but not convincingly enough). Also, don't forget how did we perform when he was out for his tennis elbow injury.

Be honest, ask yourself, don't you expect (like billion of other Indians) a hundred every time he is out there in the crease? That's the irony, sir. SACHIN IS THE VICTIM OF HIS OWN SUCCESS. Its the greatness of Sachin's play that has put him so high that even if he gets out in the 90s people start shouting why didn't he hit a ton and that he's not able to play international cricket. Even if he has made 100, these media persons cry why he hasn't hit the winning run; they publish full-page columns on how Sachin fears Shoiab, just for the sake of their bloody buisness; they know if they dont write something sensational about Sachin, there product won't sale.

For the cricket lover like me in India and outside, SACHIN IS THE GOD OF CRICKET. YEAH, I DO BELIEVE ONE DAY HE'LL RISE FROM THE ASHES. He has done it in the past and he'll do it again. Amen.

Sadly we are a nation of fools suffering from the Raj hangover - so we denigrate our own heroes when we should be buying someone else an one-way ticket out of India.

pls give sachin a break. hes done a lot for the country and has been the greatest sportsman the country has ever had. and chill out, nobody's perfect.
we shud all support him and encourage him. the bombay wankhede crowd was such a spoilsport.bunch of losers!

today after the match, which england won, on fourth umpire on DD1 mohinder amarnath said cant a coach without laptop can coach team india and he said the dictation of other persons besides coach should be reduced, he was refering to India's not batting first. i wonder why this other persons are not made public . so u all IMs should name them. plzzzzz

Agree fully with aholic_2907 (post no. 4 above).

The fickle minded public expect a century from Sachin each time he gets to the crease. We perhaps forget that Sachin has been playing since the age of 16, ie. for the last 17 years. What is the normal career span of a good batsman ? Its only natural that he is no longer his old self. How can he be ?

Maybe its time for him to step down, but lets not forget his glorious contribution to Indian and world cricket. And all said and done, Sachin was the top scorer in India's second innings today !

Well what about the 2 wins without Sachin's contributions, this shouldn't be construted that I don't like Sachin. I would like him to go past & break whatever records he can but now seems unlikely as the operation would set him back by another 6 months or so.

Tough to let go of your sporting heros, I would have liked Kenny Dalgliesh to have playrd until he was 45 but time waits for no man!!

Sachin isn't just a sporting hero, he's an institution and carrys with him the hopes of a nation, a job he done admirably for 17 years.
That he is slowing down is natural, eventually he will have to be dropped from the team if not now later.
For people who love their sporting heros there can be nothing more agonising, than watching Gods of the sporting arena slowly dwindle into mediocrity.
I for one would hate to see an over the hill Sachin playing terribly and being the subject of ever more ridicule. His place the team assured by history alone, now that would be a shame.
Perhaps there's a case for signing off at the top??

I think it is almost time for Sachin to go. There are so many undiscovered talent is waiting. We already found Dhoni.

I also agree with this... plz none of us are perfect and what sachin has done none of us can evr do it... so instead of sitting and critisizing him we need to help him come out of his bad times...
