In a few days it will be official that West Indies will have to play the qualifiers to qualify for the World Cup. Their match against Ireland got washed out. Now they have to defeat England 5-0 or 4-0 with a tie. This seems next to impossible.

So the 1975 and 1979 World Cup Champions have stooped to this level. Who is responsible? The board or the talent?

Both, I hear Basketball is now more popular with chances of bigger earnings in the US.

Baba Indrajit scores a double hundred in Duleep trophy. Nice.

Possibly. Another reason could be that the West Indies constitue of a number of independent countries and politics could be the cause of loss of talented players.

Similar to the quota system of India. Example Rohan Gavaskar had to play for West Bengal in order to be considered for playing for India inspite of preforming well for Mumbai in the domestic games.

Now we have another dynast, Arjun Tendulkar in Mumbai U-19. Good luck to him.

(ESPN did not mention that Vishvanath is Rohan's 'phoopha', husband of father's sister)

May be Arjun Tendulkar's selection needs a bit of clarification and justification. In absence of Dhawan in team, who will open with Rohit? Rahul or Rahane? Given Kohli's liking for Rahul, it seems to be Rahul. And will they play Kedar and Hardik, both all- rounders at 6 & 7? Or they keep Rahane and Hardik , letting Pandya bowl his full quota. But he generally goes for quite a few.

In a similar situation in Sri Lanka, it was Rahane that opened the innings with Sharma with Rahul coming in the middle order. I think this would the case now also.

Jadeja replaces an injured Patel for the first three ODI's.

West Indies defeat England in the only T20 by 21 runs. Now all eyes on the 5 ODI's which will decide whether WI qualify directly for the World Cup or not.

Again it is up to middle order to take India out of trouble. 11/3 after 5.3 overs. Kohli and Pandey dismissed for a duck in the same over.

Great recovery by India to reach 281, thanks largely to Jahdav,Pandya,Dhoni and Bhuvi.

Looks like Pandya fully deserves his position as the all rounder in the Indian team across all formats. He takes wickets (though he concedes a few more runs), is a good fielder and explosive batsman.

Dhoni also seems good to last for 2019 World Cup. We still have a find a keeper better than him in the shorter format of the game. His batting and past experience as a captain will help definitely help Kohli and India.

Rahane seems to be a misfit in the shorter format of the game. He would be an automatic selection for the longer format due to his batting and wicket taking abilities (his catching).

On flat deck belters( as is with most ODI wckets around the world) Hardik will be carted for 50+ in his 5-6 overs by good batsmen quite a few times. In those situations he has to deliver with the bat consistently. It wii be too much for Dhoni to bail out of every debacle, specially in chases above 300. Playing alongside Dhoni for long can develop his defensive game, which will come handy on days when Dhoni himself gets out early. And seriously it's time India look beyond Rahane at people like Mayank Agarwal, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant in shorter versions

I think the 15 players for the ODI World Cup is pretty much settled. I would have liked another left handed batsman in the sqaud apart from Dhawan and Jadeja. In yesterday's match a left hander would have helped in the top order.

At the current moment we have good batsmen in the team. If the 2 of the top 3 click we would be a difficult side to beat. Our bowling strength is good, fielding better than earlier.

Pandya though could concede runs he has got the ability to take wickets with his pace and bounce.

Good win by India.

Some dropped catches were not the best.

The rain Gods are fuming at Kolkata. Not a good sign. May be we will have to be contented with just about a t-20 game and even that remains uncertain. Washout on the cards for us. Two top sides need a proper contest.
